To all of the great people here at L.O.S.T I need help

I have noticed yesterday while joy riding along I spotted a trail and decided to hit it. When I engaged into 4wd hi, as I started to take off I heard a noise that sounded like metal on metal. not loaud and not a nasty sound. It almost sounded like it was not fully engaged. I tryed several times to get it to engage, and it seemed not to work. It is going into 4wd because I can feel the front pulling me up a muddy hille. I know that it is comming from the front drivers side wheel.
This only makes a noise when in 4wd.

has any one had this problem at all? I would like to get ideas before i bring it to a stealersip.
i have an 03 sport. Never had any 4wd problems.

Thanks to you all here at L.O.S.T KJ

I may have had something like that happen before, but I'm not sure. Did you pull it out of 4WD, drive a bit to make sure it's all the way out, then try again? That usually solves any problems for me. You might also try stopping facing downhill a bit, and while stopped and in neutral, switch to 4LO. Roll down a bit to engage it and then put it in gear.

Also, don't know which direction you were rolling when you engaged it, but I can't seem to get it engaged/disengaged when rolling backwards, even though it worked when the salesman was showing me how it worked  That may have something to do with it?
