I test drove a CRD on Friday... what a blast! It was such a fun "truck" to drive. There was so much less body roll than my parents Grand Cherokee. It didn't feel like it would roll and when the turbo kicks in 8) hold on!

So, I think I've made the decision to buy a CRD... Now I just need to find one. I'm in Terre Haute, IN (1 hour west of Indianapolis) so if any of you are trying to get rid of your, let me know.

I'm already going through all the online places I can (autotrader.com, cars.com, etc.). I'm looking for a sport with sunroof, tow package, trak-lock, cd player, and cruise control. There aren't too many of these around though, so I'm flexible. Thanks for any leads.

There was a '05 Red Limited CRD for sale by an owner that was just north of the intersection at 41 and 246(or maybe it was Harlen Rd , I'm on that road too much things start to blend together :P )............ it set there a while but I don't know whether it sold or not, you might want to stop and ask.... they always have cars/trucks for sale at this house so it pretty easy to spot (on west side of 41)

and I doubt if you'll find one with trak-lock because all the ones I looked at around here (about a 150mi radius of Vincennes) none hed been ordered with it. But they did have all the other stuff :D

I'll keep an eye out for one for you..........

Oh BTW I have had mine for over a year and commute to TH 6 days a week(so I'm on the road a little :P ) and have only seen 3 CRDs in that time around here ,so there aren't many around.

good luck on your hunt

Re track lock. The 06 models have "electronic traction control" and I under stand the option was not available.

Yep, I know it's not available on the '06's. Probably looking for an '05 anyways. Probably won't be able to find one with it, but it's worth a shot.

You probably already know this, but you can search dealer inventory on the jeep website. The dealer I got mine from sold all of theirs. They had 7 CRDs on their lot. Mine doesn't have the tow package, but I plan on purchasing the hitch and TBC as soon as I have the extra jingle. Good luck with your search.

My wife has decided she is tired of the CRD, she says it is too small and stiff riding for her. I am trying to hold her off till spring, but she has decided she wants a Dodge Charger AWD SXT. I tried to get her to look at a Magnum AWD when we bought the Jeep, but she didn't want a stationwagon and Charger was available in AWD at the time. Go figure, no stationwagon, but wanted an SUV.

Anyway the Sport CRD has full skid set, trailor tow (we don't even own a trailor and never towed anything) package, new EGR & FCV as of last week, runs great, just filled it yesterday and it was 22 mpg for in town driving. The Jeep has never been off road, couple of graval roads, I still have the window sticker and it has the transferable 3/36 and 7/70 mile warranty. Spare has never been on the ground, and fuel has always been B2/B10 49 cetane fuel since we bought the Jeep. It currently has about 16,000 miles and will be getting it's second oil change next weekend.

Not sure of asking price as yet, haven't looked it up. Also I hope to put wife off till spring, but if a decent offer comes by from someone I will sell it sooner and make the old girl happy. We may end up keeping the CRD for our daughter to drive, but I rather doubt that is going to happen as she has no need of a 4x4 SUV anymore then my wife.

If anyone is interested just PM or email me and I can provide exact list of options, miles, oil sample test, and answer any questions.

Oldnavy: say it isn't so!!! If you leave the CRD oligarchy, where will the rest of us aimless wrenches learn our much needed diesel lore?

I say we all pitch in, we can buy your Libby and give it to you. It's worth the price in my shop bills!

Sigh.

You are too much my friend. Hey it will most likely be given to our daughter, who lives with us, to drive.

My wife wanted a VW Touareg untill I informend her they start at about $55k, and the gassers only got about 18 mpg highway. She heard about the CRD and that is how we ended up with the CRD, I wanted her get a AWD Magnum. Needless to say when I asked her if she didn't think the CRD rode rough or too small, she said no and like the way it handled. My guess it was all the torque the Jetta TDI didn't have. The CRD still amazes me when I drive it, it is easly faster then most SUV's on the road.

Adult supervision from a guy in his second childhood??? :D

Hey I haven't owned a VW for over a year and I'm still a member of that forum in good standing and just hosted a GTG for VW's & CRD's, had 23 VW's and one CRD show for the event. I had a blast by the way, you should have been here.

Old Navy, I am surprised as well. Once the diesel bug bites you, you’re hooked (right?). Maybe it’s the clatter (I wish the CRD had more!). Getting 25mpg is sweet too but with diesel around here at $2.61/gallon, it does take some of the fun out of it. :x

Greg,

I may want to sell mine. I keep drooling over the new 4 door wrangler if only they offered a diesel. I haven't had time to drive one yet.

kjfishman,

Let me know if you decide to sell. I'm a senior at Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology and over homecoming one of the alumni had a diesel wrangler unlimited. It totally surprised me, I'm not sure if they plan on producing them or if it was just some experimental vehicle. Either way, it looked really cool, especially with the removeable hard top and all.

Diesel Wrangler's Unlimited's are sold as export models. So if it totally surprised you, then just feel what your post did to us!
If there is a way to purchase these domestically, we need to know.
So your home-work fellow Engineer, is to find out the particulars on this situation and dutifully report back!

BTW- several of us have mentioned that there is a 2005 CRD for sale on 41 South including myself. Did you go look at that?

I wonder if canada gets the diesel wranglers, if so it may be possible to import one, maybe only after it has so many miles on it or something though.

Edit: nevermind they dont get it either. www.jeep.ca/en/

Haven't had a chance to check out the one on 41 (too many darn tests!) I've got Friday off, so I'll try and get out there then. I'll see what I can find out about the diesl Wrangler. I have a feeling that it was a foreign market car that they left one of the alumni drive down to show off. For example, my buddy worked up at dodge over the summer and they let him bring a diesel Nitro down to move in with.

Hey Greg. Let me know if you haven't found a sport yet, I am thinking real serious about selling my limited. Wanting to buy an '07 wrangler since the wrangler was my first choice when I moved to the Jeep brand, but after owning diesel trucks for many years, went with the Liberty instead. Mine has all the TSB and recall updates done and is like brand new with a few accessories on it too. Sorry I love the new Wrangler :):) Gary

Ours is a 05 Sport. :)

I know what it means when you buy something you really didn't want as much as you think you did. My wife didn't like her Jetta TDI because it was so low to the ground and too small, enter the Jeep CRD. Tried to get her to consider a Magnum AWD or a Charger before we bought the CRD, she would not even look at or drive one. That has changed, and now she likes the idea of big AWD Charger 3.5 V6 for some reason. :?

Talked to a dealer yesterday about '07 Dodge Charger AWD, so if anyone is interested the wife's Liberty I think it is going down the road. Here is a couple of pictures.

Image Image

The rig has never been off road, has full skid package including fuel tank. Currently has 16,xxx miles. Also has had all updates and had tranny filters replaced at about 1,700 miles, has had both tranny filters and fluid replaced again at about 13,000 miles (would have to check my papers for actual mileage), has just had new EGR & EGR FCV replaced and ECM reflashed. Last fill was 22.7 mpg city. Has had OEM muffler replaced with Flowmaster 40 series muffler. I also have original window sticker that shows all options. It has the PML differential aluminum differential cover that has a drain plug and holds extra 3/4 qt of fluid. Have Fumoto oil drain valves (with nipple) on engine and transfer case. The CAC and hose's were replaced at about 13,000 miles and it has had EHM ever since, so there is no oil in the intercooler system. It has always had B2/B10 49 Cetane fuel until recently,(I trying ULSD at 20 cents less per gallon) currently on second tank of straight dino ULSD and the CRD has almost no smoke now when heavy throttled, seems to run as good and as quite as it did with the B2/B10.

If bought by someone here I will pay to have it detailed and waxed at the dealer.
