2005 Liberty Sport 7273 miles 2 throttle control valves and now an EGR. Mostly city driving with much stop and go. I'm fortunate however that both dealerships that I have delt with has had the needed parts in stock resulting in minimal downtime. I have never had any hassles with either facility, always a sorry for the inconvenience and thank you for your business.

For the people having multiple failures (especially longarm) my local diesel tech here said that the PCM is supposed to be replaced as the programming is what is wrecking them (the EGRs).

There is a reflash that is suppose to be done now for replacementof the EGR to correct the EGR operation cycle and increase the EGR life.

Milage 26,599. My EGR has been replaced three times now. I popped a check engine light today with same symptoms as before. KJ is spending the night at dealership. I will find out in the am if it's the EGR for a fourth time. I drive a mix of city and highway. Est. mileage for EGR replacement is 7K miles first replacement, 13K miles second replacement, 22K miles third replacement. Now, with 22599, poss. a fourth replacement. If thats the case, I'm going to tell the dealership to hold off and not replace it. I will right away cert. mail a letter to DCX informing them of a last chance to repair my vehicle. Thats in accordance with the Lemon Law in Michigan. I thought of just painting a HUGE lemon on the sides and hood with those washable markers and driving the 45 minuntes to DCX world HQ. I can park on the side of the road with the hood up on Featherstone and Opdyde Rd's. Thats the corner nearest DCX HQ and insaine high flow traffic area near two of Michigans busiest freeways. THAT ought to get some attention.

I just had my second EGR replaced in less than 12,000. My receipt didn't say anything about reflashing the computer though. What's the number so I can look under the hood? I have noticed that the RPM's are a little higher upon stop and go traffic excelleration since picking it up from the service department. Will this "settle down" after awhile?

Just had cel 2 days ago. It went off before I could get it to the dealer. The stored code was P0401. Why would it go off on its own?

33,150 miles

No failures yet.

I did take it in with the tranny shudder. They did the filter TSB and replaced the Torque Converter. That was at 22,000 miles. It has been great ever since.

Well I finally got to drive the CRD a couple of times this weekend and no more shift hesitation or clunking at 35 mph, no visible smoke in day time. I will try and check it out at night this coming week, but with new EGR, computer reflash and ULSD I doubt that I will see much smoke. The Jeep overall seems smoother operating. Also the MPG's seem to be up some but that needs further checking, however it may not be noticable till spring due to winter fuel MPG drop starting shortly from winterized fuel.

Has anyone tired to documtnet these failures and get an official response from the manufacturer?

Hi,

I have a 2005 Liberty CRD (diesel). I was very happy with this vehicle,
Despite seeing all the problems posts on this and other forums until 21000 miles when my CEL light came on. I took it to the shop and had them do the 35K service since it was in. They called me and told me it needed EGR replacement so by the time they got the part in and replaced it my Jeep was in the shop for a week.

When I picked it up it took 3-5 seconds to start and I should have said something right then but I had plans to be somewhere. Once I got on the highway I noticed that it seemed to shake, hesitate and stutter intermittently at steady cruising speeds. When I got home the dealership had already closed and I called back the next day and made an appointment for the following week. During that week it continued to run rough and died several times on the highway and in town.

Now it has been in the shop for two days and they are doing diagnostics with no idea what is wrong and no ETA for a fix. When I asked about loaner car they told me that Chrysler does not provide loaner cars unless they are specifically authorized. Well the conversation with Chrysler was frustrating to say the least and I got nowhere.

The rep would not give me a name of a manager or anyone to write a letter to and would not acknowledge any sort of problem only saying that this repair was covered under warranty and that any decisions of future repairs would be addressed on a case by case basis, unless there was a recall. However she could not help me until the warranty has run out nor authorize a loaner car or rental assistance. Basically she implied that unless there was a recall I was going to be SOL after 36,000 miles.

I am not naive enough to think that this problem is "recallable" but after I have seen many posts on people having excessive problems and would like to compile a list of people who have this problem to send in writing to Chrysler. My hope is that we can get some kind of credit or a formal extension of the warranty on this item so that we will not be paying for EGR replacement every thousand miles once the basic warranty expires.

If you have experienced EGR failures within the warranty period and do not mind if I use your name could you please send me you name address VIN and summary of problems and I will include in a letter to Chrysler once I obtain the appropriate senior management contact name.

You can send it to Siegfried.Forster@yahoo.com. Thanks!

I've made it to 36,000. Now I'm out of warranty my EGR is bound to fail. So far I have been really lucky. I'll keep you all posted.

I wonder if you may be getting CA standard fuel since you are so close? CA fuel has been ULSD for a while now hasn't it?

The ULSD stickers just started last month. I have been running bio. b-20 for a while and now b-5.

Has anyone compared the use of the BioD v the DinoD?
Mine hasn't failed yet at 23.5k, but now I've probably jinxed myself.

Bought the Jeep used with an extended warranty from the Jeep dealer. Have drove it 5000 miles since April and it's in the shop for P0104 & P0299. So add my 2006 Jeep Liberty CRD to the list at 17,000 miles. This is the 2nd trip back and they aren't replacing the EGR valve yet. I'll let them throw warranty parts at it until they figure it out. I've got until 7 year/70,000 miles for them to figure it out...

06 Liberty Sport, bought new late 05.
Ran heavy diesel until first of 07 when 5ppm came out.
EGR and FCV replaced at 23000
Mostly highway miles. 30 miles each way to work.
Boost pressure hose weeping oil which I credit to the year or so of heavy diesel.
ORM and EHM now.
Chrysler took a nice engine and fowled it up with all the soot problems.

At 59,050 miles CEL came on and stayed on. Dealer said it threw three codes (EGR minimal airlflow, turbocharger underboosting, and MAF). Dealer also said it was fine to drive  as they wouldn't be able to look at it for 5 days.

It was finally diagnosed that I needed a new EGR and 3 days later I picked it up "repaired".

4 days after that I sold the CRD. :D

This has been, in many respects, the least reliable Jeep I've ever owned.

No more Jeeps for a while.
