General AT2's

Going to the local General dealer on Saturday first thing to get a set (5) of General AT2s put on. Since I don't have a lift I'm just getting the stock size, luckily they were able to find 5 of them for me. According the the guy I talked with on the phone they are a little hard to come by, even tirerack.com has them listed as back ordered at every warehouse. I'll be sure to post a few picks on Saturday once I get done changing the oil at my parents (stupid apartment complex won't let me work on my Jeep in the lot).

I actually contacted general about these tires awhile back because I had been told by several dealers that they were discontinued. Here is what I was told.

I found out that sears will order them for me, and a few places have some left.

I am definantly interested in the pics, also measure the tread width on them if you can. Seems like someone said 7.5 inches? and what is the load rating, and what kind of a deal did you get if you dont mind telling?

Sorry for so many questions, I just think you made a wise choice, the same that I will probably do when I can come up with the cash, and am interested in how satisfied you are with the tires.

I'm getting them for $105/each install (valve stem, the works) plus I get free lifetime rotations. It's funny because 2 months or so ago I called and was quoted at $115/each; fifty bucks saved. Plus I save on the almost $75 shipping cost from tirerack.com

Just a thought: Have you tried looking for the other stock size of 235/70 r16 ???

No I haven't, only because the CRDs never came with that size tire. Only the gassers had two tire sizes.

I've got 5 - 245/75/16 tires I'm letting go for a steal of a price. 150miles (if that) on them. Spare never touched the ground. Check out my thread in the For Sale forum. [Edit] cardomain page has pics of them when they were on.

Amazing tires.

Grabber AT2 discontinued? This is news to me. Usually a discontinued product is removed from corporate web sites. That hasn't happened yet with this tire.

When I bought my four Grabbers this summer, Tire Barn (I'm in Indiana) said the Grabber AT2 is a new model and would be available well into the foreseeable future. I hope they don't run out because I still need to replace my spare with one! I was going to wait until December, but I might just bit the bullet and order it this week. Tire Barn in Indy sells the the 245/70R16 for $115 installed, which includes free lifetime rotation.

Yeah the actual tread widths is right around 7.5". It was funny watching the guys work on my tires because the tire machine couldn't produce a bead lock on the tire and rim. They had to use a portable bead lock tool (basically a little air tank with a quick release valve like they use on the side of highways for big trucks). No pictures yet, I'll try and get some up tomorrow.

LOL...funny you should mention that. NTB near me couldn't get more than one to bead onto the rim. Brought them to the tire shop that I usually deal with and they got a chuckle out of that, and mounted and balanced all five no problem. Probably just needed more air pressure or something.

Have fun with your Grabbers! If I didn't live so far from my work, I'd still have them on! They definitely are amazing tires.

They are not discontinued, it just seems that general has been running a bit behind so you might have to wait to get them in. Some places didnt want to sell me anything but what they had in stock, some places had them in stock and told me they couldnt get anymore. General says they are still making the tire so all is well, just might need a little patience when it comes time to order tires.

8k on my Garbbers in 225/75/16 and I love them! They are showing no wear, the CRD drives like a different and better truck! Best news they were $77 each at Walmart...

I have 8000 on my grabbers, and still love them! No complaints. In one 24 hour period I used them in the following terrain with floawless performance:

Sand

Clay roads

Long Highway travel

In town travel

4+ inches of snow at various speeds

SUPER SLICK ICE

Great all around tires!!!

Nope, they don't have anything for the 17"

It looks like they are planning to, but from the numbers, they are making them much larger than anything that will fit on a libby.

I ordered 4 265/70/16 from our tire supplier.Only one came in ..I called them to see why only one..They said General was behind in production.Said it would take 3 weeks to get the other 3. 3 weeks later they still havent come...Now they are saying yet another 4 weeks before I can get them.Must be a good tire.Guess we will just have to be patient. :roll:

that's odd for the delay. I called a friend of my family who does tires, he ordered them on a tuesday, and i had all 4 put on that saturday morning. but yes, great tires. incredible difference when compared to the Cooper Discoverer ATs i had before.

Hey swoop95 I think you'll really be happy with the AT2s.What size and brand of lift are you thinking about? Theres alot of good ones out there but I just went with the Rustys 2.5 spacer lift.The Rustys coill lift seems to be the most trusted and popular,but like Rusty says in there ad the difference in price will help out with the cost of new tires.What ever you choose good luck with it and get some pics up here.
