To answer some part of the first question here - I was able to complete 3 runs with the G-Timer yesterday.

Unfortunately I was not able to complete the quarter mile (the straight part of the road we choosed for that was to short) so I had to break up after about 1000ft. The best 0-60 time was 8.58sec the worst 9,10sec!

Here are the details from the best run:

Car: Jeep Liberty 3.7 V6 4spd-automatic transmission
Time: 05:20pm
Temperature: 47 degrees
no A/C, no overdrive, tank 1/4 full, one passenger
Jeep in 2 wheel drive

1/4 mile run broke up at 77.9mph

0-10mph: 0.43 sec
0-20mph: 1.60 sec
0-30mph: 2.90 sec
0-40mph: 4.35 sec
0-50mph: 6.30 sec
0-60mph: 8.58 sec
0-70mph: 11.20 sec
60ft: 2.40 sec
330ft: 6.90 sec
1000ft: 13.80 sec

1/8 mile: 10.63 sec @ 66.8mph

Your jeep did that with the 245/65/17 tires? Thats really good for a stock libby with those tires! :)

Me and my sister tried the 0-60 competition.

We came up even. She took me off the line, I caught up later. Notice I said that I did NOT win. She got me by a second or so.

And oh do I wish I could get the MPG those people post in the CRD forum.

Regardless of fuel price ($2.11 a gallon of reg unleaded vs. $2.49 a gallon of diesel as of today in my area), regardless of sticker price (what was the diesel, 4 grand or so more than the gas version?) I think you have to look at the cold hard fact that an engine put in a vehicle for a very short two year experiment does not bode well for its owners years down the road when work and parts are needed. The gasser wins out. Regardless of track times or towing power.....

A valid concept, but not exactly true. The price difference was closer to @ $1200 which included the heavier 5-speed automatic to handle and make best use of the extra torque along with the select-trac transfer case. Where there was a big difference in price came from DC's rebate/discount programs where they gave no incentives to buy a CRD (which a year ago was selling as fast as they could make them) while they were discounting the gas Liberty almost $3K. With a little are twisting, was able to get the same discounting as the gas model.

Not sure what you get for fuel mileage with your gas model (mid to high teens?). I consistantly get 24-25 on average out of my CRD and have got as high as 28 mpg in hot weather (CRD's like it hot) on long trips. It will also deliver 500 miles out of the same 20 gal fuel tank used in the gas model. The current price differential, the result of fuel supply issues/shortages from the the oil industry's conversion to ULSD fuels and a current oversupply of gasoline makes the economy roughly neutral. When market conditions stabilize, ULSD fuel becomes more available/competitive and gasoline again spikes to $3/gal, the economy of the CRD will make sense.

As for the VM Motori CRD Jeep engine, it continues to power roughly 3/4 of the Liberties/Cherokees sold in Europe along with most Caravans/T&C's. It's two year run was cut short because it can't pass '07 emissions in the US without significant (and costly) upgrades. As far as service/parts are concerned, this effects diesel owners of all makes. Most diesel owners have learned to look to non-traditional sources.

As long as they are still using the diesels in Europe, then you are probably good to go as far as parts go. I do a lot of short trips (I live 1 mile from work, and it can get cold in Denver, thus probably not good for the gasser, but really bad for the diesel). All in all, I am sure the diesel is an awesome value and you all will still be on the road long after our gassers have bitten the dust. But I will baby mine to go as long as possible....
Good luck to us all, gas or diesel...

This CRD is definately a piece of work and not for everyone. For my needs it's a coin-toss as to keep it or trade it. At the moment, the fuel situation neutralizes the economics. It cost as much to run as a gasser KJ and as much as my full-size 2wd Chevy pick-up. I can easily trade both for a newer 4X4 pick-up and accomplish the same objective. The $500/yr insurance savings will buy a lot of gas. I figure there is no harm in keeping it until Spring.

I was able to complete 2 quarter mile runs this morning - best time was 16.50 the other time was 16.75 - so no chance there for a CRD - neither stock nor tuned.
The CRD have it's qualities and advantages - beating a Gazzer in acceleration, Top Speed and sprinting is definately not included in these.

Here are my results from this morning:

Car: Jeep Liberty 3.7 V6 4spd-automatic transmission
Time: 05:28am
Temperature: 32 degrees
no A/C, no overdrive, tank 3/4 full, no passenger
Jeep in 2 wheel drive

0-10mph: 0.43 sec
0-20mph: 1.60 sec
0-30mph: 2.88 sec
0-40mph: 4.33 sec
0-50mph: 6.35 sec
0-60mph: 8.63 sec
0-70mph: 11.23 sec
0-80mph: 14.82 sec

60ft: 2.40 sec
330ft: 6.91 sec
1000ft: 13.78 sec

1/8 mile: 10.63 sec @ 66.6mph

1/4 mile: 16.50 sec @ 82.8mph

Yea - had the 245/65/17s on. I agree - my stock libby is doing well with these tires - I didn't realize much loss of power when changed to the 245ers.

So you turned the overdrive off, right? meaning that the yellow light in the dash was lit, right?

Yea - turned the overdrive off (yellow light in the dash was on) to get optimal shifting points. So the automatic shifted gears at about 6000rpm.

6krpms? Are you sure about that? The libby red lines at 5,600 Im fairly sure. The O/D button doesnt do anything to the red limited..

Yes I am sure about that - it revs up into the red zone of the tachometer and shifted at about 6000rpm. I was wondering the first time I saw that and spend extra attention about that.
Sure the O/D button has nothing to do with the red limit - but with O/D the shift points are far below 5000rpm...

As far as I remember - no car I ever had stopped reving up at the red line - they all stopped reving up a few hundred rpm higher. So 6000 seem to be OK for a 5600 red liner.

I concur. I was driving home late one night with the cruise control on at 70mph and realized at the last second that I was going to miss my exit, at the same time I noticed I couldnt exit unless I sped up.......... so forgetting I had the cruise control on, I locked out the overdrive and floored it and watched the tach fly to 6k, then stepped on the brakes as I got to the stoplight at the exit. It held on to 6k for a good 3 seconds before shifting.
