Check this out!! AAAARRRGGGGGG !!

I live in B.C., Canada

Last January (2006) my drivers side lower bj broke on my 2003 Liberty as I was leaving work. I had the Jeep towed to a local service center because it is out of warranty and had both lower bj's replaced with the hefty MOOG units. I definitely didn't want anything that Chrysler was supplying put back into my Jeep so I ate the extra cost and got the MOOG's.

Then along comes the 2nd recall. After many very frustrating phone calls about reimbursement for my new bj's, I was straight out told by Daimler Chrysler Customer Service, that in order to satisfy the recall notice and TRY to get reimbursed I had to take the Jeep to my local Jeep dealer and get my brand new MOOG bj's taken out and replaced with the "new & improved" Jeep bj's. Or as I was told by a service manager at a dealer nearby, I could postpone the recall until these MOOG bj's that I just bought wear out.

I understand the liability reasoning by Daimler Chrysler (DC), but the parts I had installed were much better than anything DC could give me and were professionally installed by a certified mechanic. I'm going to try and take it in to just get inspected and have the service guys approve the previous repairs to satisfy the recall notice. If this is not possible, then it's one costly fix.

This could be the costly bottom line for myself and DC;

1. I get my new MOOG's taken out that I specifically ordered for safety (I will ask for them back)
2. Many phone calls to Customer Service (thank god for toll free numbers)
3. My time spent taking my Jeep to a dealer for repairs,
4. I get a pair of bj's that I don't know I can trust (another recall, 3rd time lucky?)
5. As the Customer Service "Manager?" told me, I could TRY to get reimbursed and if I do how much will they give me,
6. Cost of new parts, labour, administration etc. that DC will have to shell out for this.

Hi! Welcome to the board. Good to see another BC guy reporting in. Sorry to hear about your balljoint dilemma. If it was me, I'd keep the Moogs in, they have a great reputation for the KJ lower balljoints so far. And so far, we only have DCs promise that the new balljoints are better or will last longer....they might be right, but so far, who knows?
Hey, I hear you folks are getting some wicked rainfall and flooding down there...you OK?

I gotta agree w/ snowsport. Keep the Moogs on, don't jeopardize your saftey and try to keep fighting w/ DC. You'll have to eventually hit someone over the phone that will work w/ you, escalate the problem, and get you some sort of reimbursement. It's one of those games of who'll give in first but keep pestering them or better yet get the direct # of a supervisor and annoy them. Be creative. Sounds like you've invested some time into this now, what's some more? Your call. My opinon. Good luck!

I've received the notice 2 weeks ago, but I've not still done the recall.

My right LBJ is still the stock, I've changed the left two times (the first at 50.000 km and the second at 59.000!!!!, the second time it was free of charge)

bye

Just a quick update on my lbj dilemna....

I ended up getting the recall done at the local Jeep dealership. Got my Moogs back. No problems.

Wrote a very nice (non-threatening) letter to DC Canada Customer Service early December 2006, explaining the situation and the problems I had including a detailed breakdown of my costs. Included original receipts from the service shop, a print out of the Moog spec's from Moogs website, a copy of the recall invoice from the local Jeep dealership.

Received a letter from DC Canada Customer Service late December 2006, apologizing for the inconvenience.

The best part...they sent me a cheque for the full amount, to the penny, that I had asked for in my original letter.

WOW, my wife and I were in shock. All we expected was a letter saying Sorry and possibly some small payment. But to get the full amount of my expenses was amazing.

It just shows that some phone calls and a letter does payoff. Remember to document everything, phone calls, dates, people talked to etc.

Cheers

Couldn't agree more. I'm also keeping a log with receipts (I've had to use it once already) It's great that it worked out for ya.

Got the recall done today and it only took a little over a week to get the recall done. The Kj feels tighter to me and the clunk in the drivers side is gone. I knew the ball joint was gone and figured I would hit them up for the recall. See how long the blue ones last for. After these are done move on to Moogs
