I decided to drive the Mercedes ML diesel. Oh my God! Quiet, refined, powerful, expensive. Except for the price, I was really impressed - if this is the engine they're putting in the Grand Cherokee, it should be a real bargain. The ML sticker price was $53K - with fake leather.

I owned a 1999 ML 320 - what a p.o.s. This was so much better. Can't wait to drive the Grand Cherokee CDI. Would DC hurry up and get it to market? :P

Standard Engine 3.0L 215 hp V6
Horsepower 215 @ 3800 RPM
Torque (lb-ft) 398 @ 1400 RPM

Talk about a torque monster!

Don't you mean CRD? ;) That's Chrysler Group's term for the diesel engine type.

You're right - I was in a hurry. CRD is for the Chrysler / Jeep lineup. CDI is for Mercedes-Benz only. So let's try again - I can't wait for the Grand Cherokee CRD!

I'd have one in the garage if they'd import it here!

The older ML 400CDi was my first choice and then the KJ. I got such a good deal on the KJ I got it instead fo the ML 400CDi. If you really want a thrill drive a new A8 4.2L TDi!!!!!!!

How true

But I'd sell my sole for the new Audi SUV coming out with the 6.0L V12 with 500hp/738tq

I can only imagine what that will be like. I've driven the VW Touareg V10 turbo-diesel. It's like a locomotive. I broke out in laughter every time I stomped on the gas.

I drove a completely loaded GL320 CDI, now that thing is NICE! Adjusting beam pattern, which also turns into the curve and intelligent Cruise control that adjusts the speed relative to the guy in front of you.

HOLD ON A MINUTE. I just noticed WHERE you are from. You mean to tell me you have not driven a ML 420 CDi and you live there?

And 8K can get you a well-maintained low miles used MB diesel. Is the CRD as good as 3 used Mercedes? :D

Just kidding, I know what you mean about the price. Only thing I'd pay 53K for better have an acre of land to go along with it. From what I've seen on some of the MB forums, a lot of the purists think anything MB built after the early 90's is nothing but a piece of electronic junk, that their heyday for top-notch quality ran from the mid-70's to mid-90's.

For a good quality diesel to use as a daily driver, that you can maintain yourself without needing a degree in electronics, and will still ride and handle better than anything currently made by the Big 7, it's hard to beat a well-maintained used MB.

No No isn't that the town where the ML is built? So there should be los of 420CDi there. Also the old ML only had a 400CDi and i had one of those for 2 weeks and it was a a great SUV forthe autobahns. 112mph and 24.4 mpg.

Yeah thats this town, county. The Mercedes plant is actually in Vance, but everybody says its Ttown. Our local police drives 2006-2007 ML350 and 320's. I see a bunch of Test vehicles, but havent seen a 420 CDI yet.

It is easy to get a 2004 ML 400 CDi for $27,000 here. Just pick you color. A new ML 420 CDi will set you back $95,000 new.
