I'm looking at getting a high lift jack, which model is best and where is the best place to get one?

Not to be wise, but, where do you intend to put the jack under the Liberty to use it?

I've never used a hi lift, I never really thought about it, I was just looking for a bigger jack as I am lifting it tommorow.....what do most guys do, carry some wood to put on top of the stock jack?

I carry a 48" Maasdam JackAll and I've only used it a few times. After I bought it, I read a comparison done with it and the HiLift jack and the Maasdam was rated second. It works fine though. They are available in just about every hardware store (Home Hardware in Canada carries them). These units require adaptations though, to be useful on the Liberty. My ARB Bull Bar has jacking points, and I have a specially fabbed hitch adaptor for the rear, although I won't use that unless I have no other options.

You need rock rails if you're planning to use a Hi-Lift with your KJ.

You basically open the door, put the jack under the rock rail and lift.
Works just fine, but you have to be VERY careful.

Best bet for changing tires and general trail use is a nice bottle jack or scissor jack from a truck. NOt a bad idea to carry both & a Hi-lift as there may be times when one will work good and others not. The Hi-lift can be used for recovery, moving things off the trail, moving a vehicle, etc. and there are cool acessories for them too. I have found though that using the Hi-lift for changing a tire on a trail can be iffy in many situations.

Unless you have steel bumpers I would stay away from a HI lift. Also to change tires with one they can a bit wobbly.

If it's a must need item Make sure you get the Hi lift brand, and not a rip off brand.

You can use a Hi-Lift from the side without rock rails... You just have to make one of these gizmo's:

Works like a charm...

My Hi-lift actually saved us from calling a tow truck. Last ditch effort to free the KJ.
Worked perfectly.

Image
1. lift tire out of hole.
2. fill hole with logs.
3. set tire back down on logs.
4. Drive away.

48" will fit under the rear seat, or across the back of the cargo area. The 60" won't...

Ha! That photo reminds me of a picture I saw of some guys who were building the Alaska Highway through northern B.C. back in the 40s.

A Jeep in the mud. Pure Jeeping. :D Cool hats, too.

Hey, now that I look at it closer, that vehicle has 9 slots in the grille. Was that standard in those days?

Looks like the rim, in between the spokes.

I use the hi lift adapter for rims. It's not bad but a little tight with the clearance in the front.

Nope, straight from Hi Lift.

http://www.hi-lift.com/products/liftmate.htm

I also had their bumper grabber but could fit it anywhere as the covers are plastic and the rebars behind it are tiny. Worse case scenario you could attach a chain to the tow hooks, and then lift with the hilift.
