Ok so I finaly took the plunge sorta
I ordered the OME med. duty springs from rustys along with the OME rear shocks
I am thinking about going with the rancho struts based on price when compared to the OE strut they are about $25 more each
but is this a good choice? does any body else have a different strut?
Does any body have the fully open measurement of the rancho strut VS the OE strut VS OME strut?
I am looking for number not for flex but to see if what I am being told is true.
I was told that if I simply go with an OE strut back on the front with the OME springs then I will only have like 1/2" of drop left?
If this is true then an OE KJ brand new has only 2" of drop? something sounds wrong with that. I am thinking it may be closer to 4" of drop but I could be wrong.
I think that when I get all healed up I will go out side and jack up the KJ from where it sits now 2" then see how much further it will go befor the tire gets air under it.
Or should I not waste my money on the stupid OE struts and get the rancho's?

so fully open only 1/4 to maby 1/2" shorter than the OME?
if thats the case I may save the 50-60+ bucks and go with the stockers or a good OE replacement
I know that others say you should mach struts and springs but I dont think it matters cause all the strut does is slow down the bounce

Remember, a 1/4in or 1/2in is almost double what you get. You may get an extra 1/2in-1in in droop.. You should be fine though..

I guess we are not on the same page
I am trying to be cheep and replace springs and struts/shocks all at the same time I am looking to see if the OE size strut will work ok with the OME spring
if fully open there is only 1/4-1/2" difference then an OE strut should be fine
I am not looking for max drop and dealing with spring contact but rather good ride quality
I was told that the OME strut was almost 2" longer than the OE strut wich from the looks of the pics is not true
I was also told that with the OE strut I would have almost 0 drop and all up cause I would be sitting at the max length of the OE strut wich would make for a bad ride

Yea, I understand. I was just saying that even though the OME strut is only a 1/4-1/2 longer, it will give more droop than that.. I agree though, you should be fine.. 8)

Great posts jeepjeepster, good info.

Considering the KJ's IFS works on an approx 2.2:1 ratio, 10mm of strut height = approx 22mm of extra 'droop' at the wheel.

If anyones wondering, from memory, the Centre of Wheel to Guard measurement on FULL DROOP is 600mm. My car sits at 560mm stock, but its th up travel that compensates and makes the difference offroad, not to mention the new found clearance.

so an OE style strut should be fine if I dont want the extra drop?
