Has anyone tried to clip or port their turbo? I heard about some chevy and cummins guys having this done, i'm not sure if our turbos will even allow any modifications...

lol! Why are you so obsessed with getting power out of the chugger CRD KJ engine ? ITs a 4x4 that best spends it time cruising or trailing ? lol!

Just thinking the same. I was not going to say anything being that he was fairly new to the board. I'm still waiting for the next person to come along wanting to put a nitrous bottle to the CRD thinking it will run in the 10 sec category.
Tough to make apples to oranges comparisons between Cummins, Duramax and VM Motori Diesels.
Most of us just want the turbo seals not to leak. I'd rather have a root canal than grinding down the turbo vanes on a perfectly working turbo for a slight edge.

If I had known a simple question would sound that unreasonable I wouldnt have asked you wanks. Just because I'm new on this board doesnt mean I cant ask all the darn questions that I want. If you were having as much fun smoking honda's in a diesel jeep then you would understand were I'm coming from. Oh, and I gaurantee my CRD will leave yours in the dust.

I'm not looking at stupid warranty voiding mods like propane, or atleast ones the dealer could prove existed, I'm just sure there is more power in the 2.8l with minor mods to the turbo. Do you even tow with yours? I need every darn pony and ft/lb I can muster.

I dont want to start anything here but I take offense to your attitute towards my question, if you dont know the answer dont post anything, especially dick-head comments, I was not making a duramax or cummins comparison, I just heard of people gutting out there turbo to help it spool up faster. It doesnt apear that many people on here give a darn about hp gains or anything remotely related to kicking a honda's booty.

There's always a few smart asses on these boards who think they know everything and like to think they matter. Well thanks for your comments and keep an eye out for the CRD with a huge cloud of white smoke pouring off the tires

Given that you have asked the same question several different ways, It is somewhat hard to ignore your posts even without answers to your questions. Not a lot of name calling goes on here, you may have found your way to the wrong board.

Some owners and issues aren't worth the argument. This individual obviously spent their hard earned money with the expectation of turning a small diesel 4X4 into a hotrod, ignoring the proven facts that: 1). This vehicle has some technical issues straight out of the box that I would not describe as being resolved by DC, 2). Finding parts and competent repair techs can be problematic.

What they are asking is not impossible and if they can make it happen, more power to them. From the sounds of their response they are prepared to ante-up some more cash, live outside of warranty protection, and waive their Lemon-law rights when they break it, the dealer/DC can't/won't fix it, and they are waiting weeks for repair parts. It's their choice to make, the beauty of living in a free country.

If you want to blow the kids away in their little cars then you should get a jetta or golf tdi :!: I can speak from experience that they'll do a fine job of it. CRD's are totally different animals. Our VM diesels are not a high rpm engine like vw's. They're more like a souped up truck engine with lower rpm's. If you want more gusto then look into something that changes the engine programming as the engine is more then capable. Or you could also modify the intake to let it get more air. Some have modified the exhaust but many think it's big enough already. But the fact remains that the liberty far outweights a honda. A Cherokee weighting just over 3k pounds with a 4.0L and Asin AW-4 tranny really smokes Japanese vehicles  Add to that a Banks header and you can feel the body twist. Ask me how I know
Also most of us here could care less how fast your crd is and are more interested in dependability and economy :D You could challange your buddies with their noisey cars in a little off roading

EDIT I just looked at your signature. Sounds as if your already blowing their doors off

If you can get the approximatley 5,000lb CRD to run in the 10 sec or lower range, I'll personally come out to a sanctioned dragstrip and have a thrill watching it!

FYI- if you blow a CRD 2.8L engine, good luck in finding a new VM Motori this side of the Atlantic. But, sounds like money is no object to have one flown from Cento, Italy.

Burnout,
Your comparing your granpa's diesel in the trucks to the latest thing in this rig. The trucks have a completely different type of turbo, a fixed vane type. Yours does things they have to modify to do. The 2.8L CRD is used in delivery vans and service trucks world wide, mine pulls just fine. If you really need to pull better, change your gearing to the 4.10, it's cheaper, and a bunch more reliable. Than you'll have to change to a heavier duty LT tire which isn't going to work as well on the street against the Hondas. You'll shred P rated tires with heavy towing loads. Changing it to a hot rod race engine isn't going to improve towing performance, it will do just the opposite, whether you have a gas or diesel engine.

Why does everyone keep bringing up a 10sec CRD? I never once said I was trying to race it out. All I ever wanted to do to my jeep was chip, exhaust, maybe an AFE filter if they make one and possibly work on the turbo/EGR. Turbo mods would simply be to decrease turbo-lag as much as possible; I was'nt sure if the VGT could even handle any mods. It's ridiculous that you people are so against engine improvements, I'm getting atleast 29mpg on the highway with my current setup.

Maybe I did find the wrong board, it seems like performance is taboo and everyone on here only cares about keeping there grocery getter on the road. I care about getting as much power out of my diesel as possible within the parameters of my warranty, I just wish more people on here shared the same sentiment. I purchased the 8yr/80k extented warranty with $100 deductable, if something blows it costs me $100 to get it repaired; I'm willing to take the risk for a few simple mods...

Anyone willing to back me up here?

Nobody is against what you are doing, but some of what you are talking about has probably not been attempted before on this engine. Not that many have even chipped theirs yet. Mauraderer is the only one on here that I can think of contemplating anything close to what you are doing. You might want to look for some of his posts. Haven't noticed him post in the last few days. You may be a pioneer in the area of hopping up the CRD. Pioneers sometimes wind up with arrows in them, that is all I'm saying. Good luck and let us know how it works out.

Finally some non-offensive, even kind words. I guess I am a pioneer when it comes to contemplating turbo mods. Hopefully in the next few days I will have some burnout pics up, I'm not all talk when it comes to the power I have already gained. Can anyone else even get the tires to spin on their CRD? (Power-braking of course) I'll tell you, that extra 65-70hp makes a HUGE difference, my buddy has a stock CRD and his will rarely chirp on a power brake takeoff. Not trying to brag or be a jackass, I'm just stating that once I got that extra hp and 90ftlbs I want more!

White smoke pics soon...

Er...I applaud your enthusiasm, but if you do what you suggest, and even if the dealer finds out about your chip, your proposed air filter, or the turbo mods, you wasted your money on the extended warranty. They will use these modifications as a (perhaps justifiable) excuse to void the warranty.

There are some minor items that you can add, since most of us are just trying to make it to 100,000 and beyond, with
our current transmission, none of us are up for it. I did add, chip, injectors and exhaust to a VW TDI with marvelous
results, and 250,000 miles. I will be lucky to reach 100,000 with this unit without major repairs just driving it.
But this current drive train, no way ever would I attempt what you are suggesting, unless I was near a very good
transmission shop and they tuned and beefed up your current transmission, then most of us would find our way to that
transmission shop just to have a transmission that can handle the issues we are currently having, at too high of a percentage.
I believe they are just trying to save you a bunch of headaches down the road. Most speak from experience, maybe harsh, but
they are trying to keep you from disaster. Transmission first, then try the other.

ok
i bought a 2002 crd liberty with a 2.5
found it abit flat when picking up speed
one of reasons jeep brought out the 2.8
get ecu chipped
heres link
http://www.logicautomotive.ie/Find-Your-Car/
all i can say ,got rid of flat shot, more pickup and power and what make me happy, same mpg
put in k&n filter in in filter box,was going to get conversion for k&n,didnt see at time a converstion
wouldn't do much more to it as at end of day,its a diesel
made for getting around off road and saving on mpg
diesel engines been here in europe for long time as fuel here was more than in states and like
people didnt get diesel for any other reason than costing them less on pocket
they are noisey ,but reliable
great in cold weather
if things goes wrong in diesel, expect to hangd out more than in petrol engine, fact
been driving diesel 4x4 and cars for 15 yrs
companys other than jeep have better ,because they been using diesel engines longer and learnt for mistakes and upgrades
now that merc is involved with jeep, this will help in newer crd's
also people here who get 4x4 diesels drive less high speed,so less points on ther drivers licences
if you have fast car or 4x4,more than likly to say hi to boys in blue
best of luck with your project
overall happy with my crd, just wish parts wherent so dam expensive here for jeeps
my only gripe
:D

burnout-I've been looking around on the web to see what folks are doing to this motor, but there isn't a lot out there. I kinda figured the Euro dudes might have a good website with lots of tech on it, but I have been unable to find one yet.

Most people tend to stop after intake, exhaust, and chip. Good luck with anything above and beyond that! I look forward to hearing about your progress!

later,
Nick

ps-chill with the name calling. people here are really laid back, and yes, most of the guys here just want to keep their grocery getters running and don't care about extra tq/hp...

'CRDburnouts' - your name says it all.
Mate, personally I think you bought the wrong car, and your mate if all you can think and talk about it how much white smoke you can get from the rear tyres.
Name calling ? Who the hell called you names ? I've reviewed all the posts to this (useless) thread and from what I and everyone else out there can see is that YOU are the (only) one who has cast stones (wanker) ?

I used to own a 2.0lt NA, 12 sec / 106Mph 2003 Integra type R by the way, I believe what you call an RSX-S ? You must'nt be racing the right Hondas if you keep beating them. 1.5lt Carby EG Civic's maybe ?

Take no offense OzLtd, he was honked off at me. A lot of these loose trigger responses coming out of the wood-work these last few days, the Holiday with relatives caused some to be on edge.

Now what was this thread about, oh turbo mods! Well here's some light reading for the newbies in the audience brought to you by our turbo manufacturer Garrett.
