Took my CRD in for the first oil change at the Lexington , N.C. Jeep Dealership.. Well a week goes by and one of my friends does not believe its a diesel so I raise the hood and to my surprise there is oil all over the engine compartment and guess what no oil cap. What the h!@@!# !!!!! So I call the 5 star dealer and tell them what they have done. Oh it propbably blew off . What a bunch of crap. I said go look in the tech work space... He says he going to come get it and haul it back to the lot and look it over clean etc. and give me something to drive . I think well that will be a least he can do. Well a couple hours latter the tow truck guy shows up with a quart of oil and a new oil cap and says the dealership did not want to spend the money on a tow. So I am stuck cleaning this mess up not mention if anything got into the engine I think I am going to change the oil again. Anybody know were to report these retards. Probably will not do any good. :?:

I would change the oil, not because of foreign matter might have gotten in but just because if they are that stupid on the oil cap, they may have even put the wrong oil weight in your CRD.

If you have ever seen the CRD run without the oil cap on, it looks like an old locomotive with oil and vapors puffing out the oil cap tube with each compression stroke. I would go back and demand at least an engine cleaning to get all that oil off your engine bay.
I would also have a discussion with the service manager and the owner of the dealership and explain to them what factually had occurred and that this is not what you would expect from a customer relationship.

I have a very good dealer that allows me to walk back and observe and talk with the technician. Until I found this dealer,
I always had do the service dealer shake down when they hand me the keys. I walk around the vehicle to make sure no accidental belt buckle scratches, and I pop the hood open to inspect it.

Dude! Sorry about your dealer experience. That SUCKS! I'd call the dealership and talk to the General Manager. Tell him what happened. Don't talk to the Service Manager, he's not going to care unless you get his boss, the General Manager, to care. If the GM doesn't seem to care, tell him that you are going to roast them on the customer satisfaction questionaire and that you are calling Daimler Chrysler.

I always like to start with the root of the problem. If you give the SM and tech a talking to first and then immediately follow up the food chain, it prevents them from being blind sighted by management. What you don't want to happen is next time for your oil change to get a complementary helping of brake rotor shavings from the lathe mixed in with your oil change because someone is pi$$ed-off you went above them.

This is a VERY important step I've learned a very hard way. Assuming I used a 5 star dealership for warranty work I expected top notch service. My second time there for a glow plug replacement I made a 1500 mile round trip. After the trip I pop the hood to check fluids and what do I see sitting on the cowl? My alt support bracket and 3 bolts! The last time, after I got home, there is a tear in my leather where it looks like the mech slide across the seat, with a screw driver in his back pocket!

Moral of these stories is check your junk before you leave the dealership!

I am very sorry to hear about your story. I would be PISSED. However even a non dealer could do the same thing. My mom's oil change place forgot to put oil in when they did an oil change. The car made it over 20 miles before the low oil pressure light even came on (Crazy Hondas). Well anyway that has lead me to look under the hood anytime any one works on my car.

You should also make them pull the valve cover and have a look in there. Oil stavation can to very bad things to a engine.

I'm amazed by how many people take their vehicles to a dealer or quick lube place for an oil change. In the time it takes you to drive to your dealership, you could have done it yourself.

I just don't get it, seems like each successive generation results in further emasculation. Can't tell you how many men I see out on the interstate who can't change their own flat tire and rely on AAA to do it for them.

Perhaps you have learned a good lesson that if you want to do it right, you are better off doing it yourself. If you don't know how, now is a great time to learn.

PS In less than 20 minutes I changed oil and filter on my CRD and my other car this afternoon. A fumoto valve on the CRD is helpful.

A lot of people don't change their own oil because they lack a place to do it. Some get the dealer to change the oil to develop a relationship and test their service. (Leaving the cap off is a failing grade by the way.) While I agree with some of what you're saying, it is reasonable and relevant to expect the dealership to be able to do it and get the cap back on. I've pulled wrenches quite a lot, and there are systems on this thing I wouldn't touch.

I generally agree with your comments, and Golio704 tried to provide you some good context as to why some of us "emasculated" persons are going to the dealer. I used my dealer visits as an insurance policy and view my dealer oil changes as premium payments on the policy.
For example, when I go in I also bring two boxes of fresh doughnuts for the service techs.
Why make this investment?

When my 545RFE tranny gave up the ghost at 25K, my dealer, service manager and techs fought with DCX for a new tranny instead of DCX's position of, "Patch it up to get him over the warranty so he's out of our margin".

When parts fail on other CRD's, I get called and asked if I want to examine them and take pictures to share with this board.

Once I'm out of warranty, you bet your anatomy I'll be changing it myself

lol .... It's nice that you're nice to your dealership like that. But when a one or two year old vehichle under Mfr's wty has a powertrane/transmission failure, the dealer doesn't have to argue with anyone over whether to "patch it up" or replace it. It's always replaced - doughnuts or not. And if not, then it's your dealer that is the problem, not DCX ..... and time for a new one of those too (dealer) sans the doughnut sur-charge with each oil change.

Glad you found this amusing and were able to get a nice  . I certainly didn't when my tranny failed.
I hope your 545RFE does not fail on you because what DCX will want to do is stick parts in and you will want a new 545RFE.

When my tranny failed it was under warranty. DCX told the dealership what parts to replace and what they would pay for.
I refused and the dealerships hand was forced by DCX.
So against the dealerships better judgement, they went along with DCX. Had to wait 3 weeks for the tranny parts new pump and TC. When they put it all together, it still did not work.

Then with me in the service managers office as a silent party, they argued with DCX for a replacement. DCX said the parts were incorrectly installed and would send them again. After the dealership through a fit, DCX agreed and threatened the dealership to ship my "fixed" transmission back and if they discovered a reassembly error the dealership would pay for the new replacement transmission in full.

The new transmission arrived in 3 days instead of 3 weeks like the parts. The doughnuts went a long way.

Did the new transmission fix your problems? What symptoms were you having?
