I am about to buy a 2005 crd sport that has 15000 miles on it. This morning i called and asked for the service records and had the ball joint recall been performed. I was informed that there was a discloser on the engine the vehicle had been turned in because they could not fix a ruff running condition. They took it in and put a new injector, Fuel pump, and EGR valve on. Also they did the reflash not sure what number. They have driven it for 900 miles with no more problems. Should I just walk away or was this a common thing that with the reflash and such will take care of it.

Thanks
Bob

Bob this depends on dealer price, what actual work done, and if it was done by a certified Cummins/Sprinter tech. If this was done in a stand alone Jeep dealer I would pass and look for someone here with a used '05 to sell or use a online service to find a new '05 if you can. The great thing about the '05 is the better warranty with 7/70 coverage.

I would hurry up and find one if I were you, because if gas price starts back up and diesel stays even with gas or less the value of the CRD will rise.

They work was done at a jeep/dodge dealer that does have Diesel techs. Do the EGR problems come about because of the Blow by coating the intake? It also has the 7/70 warranty on it. The price is very good i think. I am getting is for 1000 under blue book out the door.

Thanks
Bob

If you hit OldNavy up on a weak moment, he may sell you his

I would just add if your dealer is in a small town or rural area you may be able to get the former owner to come in and let them know your interested and have a chat about his/her CRD. Sometimes this works, but larger dealerships will pull the "privacy act" clause. I did this once when buying a used pickup in a farming community where the in-laws live and it swayed me into buying the truck after meeting the former owner over coffee at the dealership.

When I was at the dealership once "Shootin Bull", they had a rough running CRD with 8K miles on it. The owner was too embarrassed to disclose the truth about accidentally mixing gasoline into a CRD fuel tank. The only way to know what had occurred was to "sniff the injectors" and it divulged that gasoline aroma. The techs drained the tank and replaced injectors and pump all under warranty work. It ran perfectly afterwards and they have not seen this person again to date.
So, it could be something as simple as the former owner putting the wrong fuel in their CRD.

Well it sound good, the only thing I wonder about is why they were not able to fix it for the previous owner.

EGR problems seem to be poor computer programming, but may be poor quality from supplier.

So what is the $1000 under blue book in real dollars? The reason I ask is I have no idea what BB is in your area of the country.

Edit: Yes I will sell anythig if price is right.

The reason they couldnt fix it could be because they wanted to $smoke$ the previouse owner on the trade in value, & sell another new vehicle to them. Now they fixed the problem and are selling the CRD again for more profit.

Thanks for all the help. In real dollars it is 20,000 out the door. If you do have a problem how fast are the dealears able to get parts? Also Should I Check into if this had the Trans TSB done?

Thanks
Bob

That's probably wise because Mrs. Navy would probably fire a few salvo's across his bow if drove the CRD like he does the Magnum!

The availability of on stock parts is really a function of the part itself. Early on, the dealerships did not stock EGR's or EGR control valves. Now they keep at least a couple on the shelf. The most you'll have to wait for shipping from the distribution centers is 3 days if the distribution center has it in stock. I had to wait three weeks for transmission parts once.

I would ask which TSB's they have completed and certainly look into getting the transmission TSB done, especially regarding the sump and return line filters.

The Trans TSB does not apply to this kj. Also the story i get on the by back is it was a Employee lease and he worked at the tech center here in Michigan. Some how he got them to buy it back after one egr valve went bad. They bought it from jeep and there diesel tech went over every thing. Thanks again for all the help.

Thanks
Bob

I will sell you the wife's CRD Sport for $18,500 with about to turn 19,000 miles. Original List was $25,800 and then I added the OEM Tow hitch (don't even own anything to tow) and OEM tranny, transfer case, and fuel tank skid plates.

Installed PML cast aluminum differential cover that holds extra 3/4 quart, and has drain plug for ease of oil change. Has Fumoto oil drain valve on both the engine oil pan and the transfer case. All fluids are synthetic, except tranny. Tranny was serviced last at about 15,000 miles with both filters being replaced, and Mopar tranny fluid being used.

The vehicle has just had the CAC and hoses replaced, (warranty) EGR FCV and EGR replaced under warranty to "new model" and TCM & ECM reflashed to lastest TSB.

I will be installing the '02 3.7L airbox (new) sometime this week to eliminate the wet filter problem when it rains.

Vehicle has only been run on B2/B10 49 cetane fuel since buying, with two tanks of ULSD just recently to see how it runs.

I do have a never used carrier that attaches to trailer hitch for extra storage that will go with the CRD.
