Hi Folks;

There has ben a recent spate of news articles on the use of event data recorders (EDRs) in newer automobiles, and the ways their remnant data has been questionably used to convict persons of vehiclular crimes, even when all other physical evidience is in direct contradiction to the EDR data.

Just wondering - does our Liberty have one of these wonderful devices?

Thanks!

Livin@11600

I was told it does and it is about a 10 minute or less loop. It records all engine, tranny, brake and ESP info or so I was told.

I saw or heard a news item in the last week that was talking about insurance and car rental companies and how they deal with their clients. One of the items they mentioned was that any vehicals in recent years with air bags had an event recorder associated with the logic of the air bag controller.

Everything's got it these days. A part of the air bag deployment system. Depending upon the manufacturer, the recorder will have a five or ten second continuous (running) history of critical functions (seat belt usage, throttle position, RPM, speed, brake light switch, ABS/ASR/ESP & some monitor the Delta-V). In the event of a near-deployment and actual deployment, those last five or ten seconds of date is asble to be reviewed with the appropriate equipment.

You can view it, but not without a search warrant. :lol:

Exactly. And if the circumstances were such that it WAS needed to be examined, a search warrant would be obtained in a VERY short period of time, let me assure you. Drive accordingly.
