Anyone have info on the stock rear diff? What kind is it, limited slip, open, etc.? If its a limited slip, is it a clutch-type, gear type, etc? I am looking to upgrade both front and rear diffs, but want to do a little research first. If the rear is a limited slip, then I'll do the front diff first (most likely a gear-type limited slip). If the rear is open, then I'll change it first (most likely a locking diff of some kind). Thanks in advance for any info or recommendations.

The rear could be open or limited slip, the trac-loc. Front will always be open. Lot of debate, but if money is no object then ARB's are the way to go. If you want to save a few bucks and you have an auto tanny, the power trax no-slip seems to be the most popular choice. Detroit does make a tru-trac for the front.

The guys that I wheel with ,my self included, are not fans of the power trax it tends to have some strange road maners due to the slack or wind up it allows in the rear end so they/we prefer to go with a detroit locker and they make one for the rear of the KJ it is about $75-$100 more than the power trax but worth every dime
also with the detroit you get an upgraded carrier cause all the stock parts come out down to the shafts
the front is now open and I would not go with any thing but a tru track up front
ARB is by far the best but will also cost you over $1000 with install and I would only go rear

You can tell if you have an LSD rear buy a tag on the axel tube that says trac lok on it
if you have trac lok it works OK it is what I have in my TJ rear end it is showing some wear at 40K but that is because it is a cluch type LSD
I will probably go with another ARB for the rear I have 1 up front now

Good info. I run the power-trax no-slip in the rear. A locker makes a huge difference off-road and for the price and easy installation I think the powertrax is a great unit. Just do a search and you will finds tons of posts on lockers.
