Halleluia Brothers and Sisters....I have found a split boot that will work on our KJ's....can I have an A-MEN!!

EMPI Inc's 86-2858-C will work on our inner boots. And it looks like the outter too. After a trail ride a couple of weeks ago, I really tore up my boots. It is a good thing I fill them up with grease, I flung grease all over the place, and when I cut the old boot away, there was enough grease in the CV joint to go another 500 miles!

EMPI, the same guys that sell HP Volks stuff make or import boots. They are screw together units. I did put a little silicon along the joint, but you don't need to.

I found this guy in Maryland....CV Restoration, he has them in stock, in fact I am going to order two more to carry with me.

WWW.THECVMAN.COM $24.95 each, and he has the solid units too, when the spring rolls around I will replace the split boots with the solid ones. It took me about an hour to change the one driver's side boot. I am little out of practice. Tell him I sent you, so he knows I put the word out!!

Al

Hey Al,...That is great news.I work in an independent shop and we've used those for a while, but we ran across another setup where you can purchase an air operated finger tool that goes into the small end of a specially made boot and expands it large enough to fit over the large end first.I know it sounds crazy but it works really fine.Plus the boot material is very plyable yet very strong. It holds up real well,at least on normally driven vehicles with proper cv angels.Ever seen one? :?:

Great news! Can you add this info somewhere that it won't vanish in the mass of posts? I don't need boots yet, but I'm sure I will someday.

THis is awsome. I just sent him an email.

My Libby has the terrible habit of eating the driver's-side outer boot EVERY time I go off-road.

Out of curiosity what does the MOPAR part usually cost. Dealer wanted to charge me $80 (parts and labor) to replace the outer passenger boot. (I'm arguing that it was pinched/punctured during the ball joint recall, or another warranty service).

This sounds like a great alternative I'd be willing to try myself to bypass my crappy dealer.

For an '04 the outer number is 5066025AB and lists for $69.60 and the inner is part number 5066024AA and lists for $29.75.

Ok ladies and gents, I just got done with the second install. All went well. The boots will fit the outer CV's but I don't know how long they will last since they need to move 360 instead on just 180 like the inboard ones do (meaning the outers need to stear, immmmm steak, too).

The only problem I will have is with one of the little tabs will most likely get ripped off by the Rock Krawler clevis, since they are much wider than the stock sticks.

if you are in the akron/cleveland ohio area the folks at L.A. Products will have the boots too. I think the actual city they are in is greene not for sure but it is a little north of akron.

Hey Al,...When you get a chance,go onto E-bay,and search item number 4444545003. It will be one of those contraptions I was tellin you about that stretches the fire out of a cv boot to fit the little end of the boot over the big end of the joint. The boot for this tool is made from a material simular to that of a sling shot(medical tubbing?).Very stretchy and long lasting

Wow that tool is really neat, so you remove the axel, and you don't need to take the CV off to install the boot. I may just need to buy one. Hpw cool is that!
