can anyone tell me how wide the 235/85's are when mounted on a stock wheel? I think I might get a set of these next but don't want them too skinny.

moose runs them. They are not too skinny at all. They do rub a bit, but thing a little trimming can't mostly fix. A wider 32" tire like a 265/75R16 would rub alot more.

I love my Dayton Timberline MT 235/85r16 tires. You will need to trim the bumper (not just that extra little dam, but into the bumper itself), and heat gun mold the well liner before it can go in reverse while turning. Mine still needs more, so I can turn w/o making good-awful noises. I had to trail trim the rear liner on the rear doors (open your back door and see that flange of a liner - it goes!) Khaki Renegade with big, all black tires... Also, when they stuff, you will know it. I guess I could get a bigger bumpstop for the rear though...

Oh, the Timberlines rock! I just got back from mud today - great traction, and livingston last weekend - they were great on the rock. Wet pavement is good too, just road noise from the MT...

235 mm, or converted to Standard @ 9.25 inches which is slightly less than 1/2 inch wider than the stock 225mm (225/75/16) wide tires. What you will get is a tire significantly taller (85% of 235mm vs 75% of 225mm).

While the section width of a tire should be accurate, you might want to actually measure the tread width if it is not advertised. I have found that this can vary quite a bit between brands. Probably doesnt affect fitmen very much, but it could and is something to consider.

And were you the one that was thinking of running Trxus MT's? If so I would be concerned with the tread on those, they are really agressive and those lugs might take off a flare a lot faster than other brands.

I to am trying to find a 235/85R 16 replacement tire for the spring. I'm having a tough time finding any with a D load range. Everything I've looked at so far is 10 ply rated or E load range which I don't want. Much too rough riding. Anyone have some ideas?

Not many out there. Honestly there is not much of a difference between D and E.

I run a P (passager rated, which is below even C) tire for road travel and an E rate tire when 4-wheeling and there is not really much of a different between the P and E rated tire as long as you run them at the same pressure.

I'd be happy to let you try my Dayton Timberline's if you ever get over this way or if you can make it down to the Livingston or Moab run. They are E (I have seen some C, but never a D for the 235/85), but the ride is fine. The only difference I notices was road noise, but I expected that moving from a street tire to a MT
