Does anyone know the width of the rear 8.25 axle? My friend needs a swapin for his Grand Cherokee with the aluminum dana 44 rear. What do you guys think about using the 8.25 in his 2002 GC? Now a really technical question, the speedo sensor in the rear, could that be adapted to work with the GC speedo. After looking at axle options the 8.25 from the liberty with disc looks pretty good. The 8.8 is the most common but I believe the 8.25 would work just about as well.

The new Grand Cherokees do use the 8.25, but I don't know if it is the same width though.

They might use a slightly different type as the brakes and stud pattern for the wheel nuts is different to the KJ's.

Why does he want to swap out the Alloy 44 ? I thought they were plenty strong ?

Do you know what kind of rear axle they have if it has quadra-drive? My parents grand has a really weird looking rear end. Nothing like a 8.25. :?

It may just be the 3.7l "laredo" versions that have the 8.25, the 4.7l, SRT8 and Hemis seem to all have dana 44's and the SRTs and Hemis get the quadra drive with ELSD.

His 2002 Overland has an alloy Dana 44, and it's already causing problems. The bearing are going bad and I guess he's really worried about it breaking with 33" tires on it.
