So I called my dealer to see when they intend to do my LBJ's. It's already a month and now they say another month or more because I'm number 50 on the list

What the?

I took my jeep in for service and they did them while it was in. I didn't even have to ask. That was a couple of months ago.

I called my dealership on Friday to set up an appointment for an inspection/emissions. I mentioned that I had yet to receive my recall notice, but my KJ was listed for the recall on the Jeep site. They said they'd look at them when I bring the KJ in, and if they are bad they will change them. But, if they were still OK I'd have to wait on the list which is now at about "200 - 250" people  . He said he could put me on the list when I called instead of when I came in on Monday so no one else would get in front of me. Wow Thanks!!!

They said they only have a few in stock for when people come in and they are bad, the rest just have to wait.

I'm seriously considering just going with some Moogs and hoping DC covers the charges. I'd hate to get burnt though, even if the Moogs are better. I'm going to be lifting my KJ at the end of the month, and I really wanted to have the recall done before the lift was installed. Not that it should matter.

Not to hijack your thread but,

Does anyone know about what the going rate would be for a shop to install lower ball joints, if I provided the Moogs?

I can answer this one. I work for an independant shop and our source for parts and labor is Alldata. Labor(non-warranty) pays 1.2 hours per side.My Moogs costed me 55.00 a piece and I done mine myself and had a bill made thru the shop. Our labor rates are 65.00 per hour.I sent them a copy of my bill (paid cash)and they are reimbursing me.There is a post I wrote to JJsKJ on an address for reimbursment in the gen forum(we finally did it),I'll repost that info if you need it.
Hope this helps. :)Sorry for the hijacked reply.

Thank you,

If my dealership tells me mine are OK on Monday when I take it in for inspection/emissions, I may just ask my personal mechanic, who is also a friend, who much he will charge to put in new lower ball joints while installing my lift. I'd hate to have to wait on a long list then have to take the KJ in again.

No problem....Glad to help.I don't think that there is one person on this forum that would disagree that Moogs are the way to go at any expence. After all;if DC could'nt produce a good part from the begining I'd rather do it myself.....I did PM you.

Well, I got my KJ inspected today and they told me my LBJ's are fine, "at this time" and I'd have to wait on the list. I was going to ask how long they thought it was going to be, but when I picked up the KJ it was late and the only sevice guy left was getting his ear ripped off by some lady who was saying she's not playing her bill. I think I'll just do the Moogs and hope I get refunded. I guess fixing possible deadly ball joints is not a high priority in my area.

I've been "on the list" since it started. Couldn't even get them while my KJ was in over Christmas getting a new tranny.

Has anyone put on the Moogs after the recall anouncement and gotten reimbursement from DC?

My dealer isn't running a list. Everytime I call they say "Sorry, we're out of them, call back in 2-3 weeks". I did this twice, on the third try I asked for the Service Manager, after explaining how I'd already tried it their way 3x, I suggested they make a list of people waiting. His reply was that he'd take my name/info and call me when the next batch comes in. We'll see what happens. I'm ready to try the dealer that I wouldn't buy from before, just to see if there service is any better.

I put mine on myself and my original letter is on the way to DC as we speak.I would think that if you had them put on elsewhere they would reimburse you.It is a saftey issue.I think you will only recoupe there price for balljoints and their labor rates. Here is their number if you want to call first....1-800-853-1403
