Anyone run 2 Mopar Subs?

I'm planning on keeping my radio stock since I've found a way to get an Ipod to hook up through the CD changer controls.. So the only thing left is the possibility of adding another sub.

My current MOPAR sub is mounted under the passenger seat because the directions were so horrible - I didn't know which side it was supposed to go on and the seat in the directions looked like the passenger seat. Thus my drivers seat (the correct location) is still available and this has really got me wondering.

If anyone has done it - please post your results. Or if you know someone that as done it as well, I'd like to know of that too...

I thought about it once... but never got around to looking at the directions to see how difficult it would be...

how much are those mopar subs. i would say go aftermarket a lot better quality i would think and cheaper.

This does not answer your questions.. but for future inquires..

yea I would go after market. Who know what kind of drivers they put in the Mopar woofer. While it is a convenient device, it still is small, and... well... bass frequencies are not small. I believe the Mopar sub only has a 6.5 inch driver in it (at 80 watts). You could install another 6.5 in sub.. but (without me doing any research) I bet you could find better amps and drivers for the price that unit costs. Also using a larger driver increases the output and frequency range of your system.

felt like looking it up and it is $244. that is a lot for a little baby sub. you could easily get 2 subs, a box and amp for that price

and i understand the stealth look. but for what you pay and what you get. not worth it to me just to have it under the seat.

Very compact and hardly noticable (size wise) but still adds a very nice amount of "boom" without making everything in the cabin shake loose. So two would be even better.

I used to be big into aftermarket equipment so I know all about how much a good box, amp and head unit would cost. But I am really intersted in just keeping my factory equipment so I don't have to worry about it getting stolen. Plus, a big old box in the cargo area really detracts from the functionality of the back half of my Liberty. I'd just prefer to have the mopar stuff.

The sub (from JPARTS) is only like $190. so if it doesn't work I can put it up on eBay and try to break even.

well as for the storage room... that is really no excuse.. because i have a truck box in the back and i can still fit 4 sets of golf clubs like a champ and thats not like it is hanging over the back seat or anything.. its not my jeep so i am not judging just trying to give my honest opinion.. as for getting stuff stolen.. get an alarm.. that was the first thing i bought for my jeep. got a sweet one off ebay that does everything.. had it on my jeep for 5 years haven't had any problems with it.. i mean car start.. shizt it even tells you the temperature inside the jeep.. so you can walk out to it when it is warm inside..

and like the other guy said i thought it was a 8 in woofer.. 6.5 is the same size as the back speakers... that isn't a sub.. even with 8's you barely can get bass.. just throwing out ideas for ya.. hate to see you waste money

I paid $500 for a 12in MTX sub in a sledge hammer box with amp. I bought a refurbished amp and its only 400watt. Its hard to get a good system for $244. I think I gave $90 for a set of MTX speakers for the rear doors. Ive not done the front yet and probably wont. I would need to get a amp to run the front components and rear speakers. Thats alot of money.

And yes, I read about someone putting the mopar subs under both seats. I do not remember where I read it though.

And I do understand that you guys are giving "sound" advice about switching out for aftermarket but I've laid out a plan and I think I will follow through with it

If I went aftermarket:

I'd get a KW Excelon HU ($400) like this one
Infinity or Alpine 400Wx1 amp: click here
Then the sub

Adding up all of that equipment and not including getting the Ipod adaptor, steering wheel control device, all new speakers in the doors and insturment panel I'd be spending at least one grand.... That is just not in the budget, especially with a wife that keeps mentioning diamond earings for our anniversary

My sub setup consists of 2 12" Kicker Comps, a dual sealed enclosure with 1.3 cubic ft behind each sub, a 50% polyfill fill, and an MTX 421D amp. Hits pretty hard, but was thinking about putting one of these mopar subs under each front seat to increase the butt shaking factor. How good do they actually sound? Im sure a couple of JL Audio (or something) 8's under the seats would be worlds better, but way more expensive...then youd have to mount an amp, ect. I like how neatly integrated the mopar ones are.

I had a dealer installed Mopar sub in my 2002 KJ. Had to sell it on a day's notice so I pulled the sub but didn't know about the wiring harness. Then I got the 2005 CRD and tried to install my 2002 sub.

So instead of throwing it away, I bought another one so I could get the wiring harness, had a guy at work modify it by splitting the sub end into a Y, put in a twice as large fuse and it thumps happily. One under each seat. I ditched the stock brackets though, they rattled too much. I ended up duct taping some foam padding around the metal side of the sub and velcro-ing it to the carpet speaker side up.

The sub comes with a new wiring harness. Take the radio out, unplug it. The cable that used to plug into the radio goes into the harness, and the harness goes into the radio. The other end of the harness plugs into the sub.

The long end of the harness snakes through the dash and under the center console to under the drivers seat.

Now you have a choice. Use the supplied backet (you'll need to unbolt the drivers seat) or not. I used the supplied bracket for about two years but couldn't stop it from rattling at certain frequencies. So I took some thick foam padding (a mat for putting under your sleeping bag on the ground) cut out a square slightly larger than the footprint of the sub, duct taped it to the sub and threw it back under the seat.

The next trick is to reinstall the radio with the extra wiring added in, it's a bit of a hassle.

Yep, was a bit of a hassle for me as well, but seems to sound great to me. Of course, I don't play real heavy bass music, just grateful dead and such. I think it would be awesome to do double mopar subs, but I think it might be a wiring headache....

Anyone run 2 Mopar Subs?
