Well I've been noticing something about the tranny in my KJ lately. When I go to put the gear selector into any gear (P,R,N,D,1,2) it makes a clicking sound for a short 3-4 seconds whiling selecting the gear. As soon as you put the selector in the right gear and let off the brake it stops. I think there may have been a few cases that the KJ shifted abruptly or kinda jerky or hard in the past (RPMs cycled wierd... :? ). No doubt that my tanny is most likely hinting to me that it needs more fluid or changed? Surely that clicking sound isn't normal? Am I just being paranoid? I'm almost sure it does need some added or changed by now...it's probably been a good 4-5K since it's been changed. When/how often should it be changed? Thanks guys...

I hope I won't be deemed the "Liberty Abuser" for falling short on my maintenance!!

no prob
I am a P.I.T.A. when it come to mait. on a vehical of any kind ask my wife ,she let the KJ get 150 miles over due for an oil change so on a sunday night after we had been out wheelin the TJ all day I mad her go and drop off hers to get the mait. done ,we get free bee's at dealer, and then the next day she had to drive the "dirty ,nasty TJ" to work I dont care but she works in sales so she has lo look nice for work
The real sad part is that the dealer is about a mile down the road from her office and they will drive her back to the office and pick her up if needed
we have only a few more free bees left then she realy has no excuse cause she passes at least 2 of those 5min jobs on the way home and for the rest I can do but oil changes are to cheep to pay for

I am a stickler w/ my stuff too...being that I race atvs...I'm always changing/cleaing airfilter and changing oil and keeping up on my bikes. It's just another way to make them last longer. But being that this is my first vehicle and it's mine to look after since I purchased it and pay for everything involved with it (yea I'm still in high school) I'm doing my best to look after it too. I love my KJ...I like it more and more each time I drive it.

My last oil change I went over a good 300 miles because I had a trip to make and had no time to get it done...or the oilfilter and oil to do it myself....so I had to go over...and it paranoid me the whole weekend.... :x I'm really good about keeping up on stuff...and I just want to make sure I'm not missing anything.

I was going to say something about women and maintenance...but I think I wont go into that for sake of any women members on here. :P

I've been known to make many persons of the opposite gender angry...especially my mother...by talking about women drivers and their maintenance habits. I'll be nice... :P

Cool....ok so I have nothing to worry about. Thanks Blake. :)

It's an 02 with 82K so I wasn't sure if it's just getting old and showing wear or if something was up. Thanks again guys.

Just to confirm the clicking - Mine does this as well when you shift into and out of gears with the selector...

Standard noise from a Chrysler product (all of thier automatics make it)

Chrysler fans seem to be twice as loud. I hear them in parking lots and stuff. :)

clicking= ok...Sound like a siren=BAD, very bad. My tranny at 36,800 miles made siren noise and the dealer ended up pulling it out and putting in a new one. No low fluid or wrong fluid either.
