since this is in the 4x4 section, just remember if you wheel in water or mud, that an open filter (like a K&N cone, etc) are not great for that

i would keep a closed intake filter system ...

I have the rusty's air tube and a 6x9 K&N cone, I didn't see an increase in MPG so much as a better average when I lead footed it. Plus it sounds cool :)

I bought a cheap air intake off of e-bay and then replaced the filter with a 6x9 K&N. I also replaced the stock muffler with a Magnaflow.

I have a picture of my air intake on my cardomain site.

I notice a performance increase, not sure on MPG.

I also added an Ebay dual air intake, i went from 16.8 to 18.7. not too bad, that was lost when i got the MTR's.

Only intake change I heard of that has been positive in the mpg while not causing worry when in mud and water was the snorkle like the aussies already have

i found the k&N intake on ebay for about 200... and the magnaflow muffler i ordered from rusty's for $79... both were really easy to install.. the muffler came with an extention which worked out perfectly... all you need is a sawsall and i welded it.. but it did come with clamps that would work... im working on getting a decent video of it to post for the sound.. but havnt had time yet :(
