Feb 3, 2006 I'm trying to get a group to wheel at Shoe Creek, VA. Depart Virginia Beach at 7AM. Showtime at Shoe Creek, 10:30. Bring your lunch. RTB 6 PM.
Who's in?

1. Ugg (Mike)
2. John

Info on Shoe Creek "Stolen" From: Virginia Beach Jeeps Off-Road

SHOE CREEK - A wheelin' spot (public access Fire Road) located west past Charlottesville (near Crabtree Falls) in the Blue Ridge Mountains.
The Fire Road is public access, however ALL property on either side of the FR/trail is PRIVATE and patrolled, thus will be respected as such - No wheeling off public trail areas!

Front & Rear tow points are a MUST! (they can be picked up very cheaply at most any auto parts store/Northern Tool/etc.)
- A tow strap withOUT metal hooks on the end is very wise (not mandatory) to have (if your Jeep does not have a winch). (can be picked up from Wal-Mart, etc.)
- CB's (or hand helds) come in handy IF you already have one - no need to go out and buy one.

Shoe Creek's terrain is quite different than that of GWNF. It's a bumpety ride with rocky terrain, and the water level is quite low (just a few small/short stream crossings in the trail).

This run is not that technically difficult - Though due to the rocky terrain, it WILL require diver patience/skill/finesse and provide a fun challenge for all! This is a great place for learning how to practice "picking lines" (ie: navigating the best/safest/lowest impact line through the rocks on a rocky trail).

Shoe Creek does offer some larger rock obstacles (a rock garden, Slick Rock, etc.) for those who want to/enjoy rock crawling their rigs with alternate bypasses.

Game time is 6 pm. I'm still up for it now that Baltimore is out of it. I can't believe no one realized this till now. I can still try to change my plans.

Ugg what’s your thought. Back to the third?

I am interested in this. I've been trying to find pics of Shoe Creek for a while. Of course all anybody really posts are pics of the hard obstacles. If this is stock friendly (people say it is, though I have yet to confirm it), I would consider it. That, and if my money is right. So, definitely maybe.

It is stock friendly for a TJ. The KJ can make it because there are side paths around the not so friendly stuff. I'm lifted and my belly was bumping a few rocks, but that is only because I wanted to try out my rock rails. I would recommend tow hooks but if you don't have em we will just go a little slower.

Mike:

Thanks for the info. I'm still at stock height, but I have tow hooks, as well as all Mopar skids, the ALL J trans skid, and Boulder Bars. However, I also have the original stock tires with about 50k miles on them. Though it was good to hear that you had been there before, so it gives me a better idea of what can be expected. Like I said, though, my participation depends on the money situation. So I'm a definite maybe.

James

I was able to change my schedule. The 3rd now works for me. Unless the heavens open and there’s tons of the white crap. I don't like the idea crawling where I can't see. Especially somewhere I've never been.
