and I quote...."I think most of the people driving KJs aren't quite the type to take the doors off. I've only ever seen one pic of a KJ "wheeling"."

Why would you want to suck dust when you can off-road and enjoy not being covered with 2" of dirt and dust....along with sucking in pollen, gnats, and someone elses exhaust. Besides, it gets darn cold up here in the mountains. Perhaps Texas, Arizona, and Nevada would be more ideal year-round without doors.

Actually, a couple guys have talked about taking the doors off and making roll-bar type doors.

Never seen one without the doors though.

Having no doors would probably be a bad day for the "uniframe," both in a car accident and off-road. While the uniframe gets a lot of ridgity from the front and rear windshield, I've also heard that you might not be able to close the doors while flexing off-road.

Ive never had a problem opening or closing a door when a tire is off the ground. The rear gate will catch just a tad, but thats why is has the little wedge that lines it up.

If you think about it, the only thing on the door that would add strength is the hinges, and the latch. The latch isnt really HD enough to add any strength to the Uni-Frame. The rear gate on the other hand has an extra latch that gives it strength.

I have riden in a YJ with the doors off and I must say its kinda cool on the HW. Passing Coal trucks can feel very unsafe though, and a side impact would be bad news for sure... But a side impact in an old YJ would probably be sad anyway. :?

Youve got to look over those people that talk about the KJ. Most people on here take theirs in some fairly crazy places, which proves anyone out there that says the kj cannot go offroad wrong. Even if they see pics or not.

I live in Nevada and let me tell ya, I love that I can keep the dust out of the interior. There's NOTHING but dust when offroading here since we have no rain to keep the trails wet. Plus, with it gets down into the low 30s in the winter and 120+F in the summer...climate control is something you need. I guess "true jeepers" would say that I'm soft, but after riding ATVs out here, you learn to appreciate being able to breath when you hit the trails.

I know if I took off my doors I'd get more laughs than praise from Wrangler owners  They'd call it "poser" and other wannabe-like terms. Doing a SFA swap is one thing...but taking your doors off just makes it seem like you wish you had a Wrangler instead of your KJ. I reckon we should be proud of our nice interiors and solid doors!

I think you guys are missing the point of this thread. The real issue isn't about taking your doors off,I think what TD14BY was after was wanting a member of that forum to go over and invite them to visit the L.O.S.T. forum.

Hey Tokio, people here in the Republic of Texas don't drive around all year without doors.

Edwin,

I lived in Texas for two years. Let me clarify my statement. It would be more ideal to off-road without doors, year-round, than in most other states.....not drive all of the time, year-round.

Just post a link to our Moab pictures or any number of pictures posted on here that have LOST members doing some really cool trails. You can do it yourself.

That right there pretty much sums it up. Don't bother trying to win a battle of words on this subject. Invite the naysayers to wheel and show them what a KJ can do. Most that have seen them wheel in person end up impressed and surprised. i gave up over at JF, it was getting almost as bad as JU for a while there. Tell your friend we welcome him to come to Moab to hang out and wheel.
