Does an ARB locker need a continuous supply of compressed air while it's operating, or just enough to engage it? I mean, does the air pressure have to be maintained once it's engaged? I'm just wondering if a tank supply can work instead of a compressor...

You turn the compressor on to engage the locker and it needs the air constantly to stay locked. When you no longer need the locker, locked, you turn off the compressor.

You can hear the compressor when a person has their ARB engaged. No hiding that secret unless it is noisy all around you. That's why I would like to get that Ected if they ever decide to make one for the 8.25. Should be silent.

I never thought of mine as something to be ashamed of. That confuses me. The compressor only goes off about every 15-20 minutes for like 10-15 seconds? Not incognito enough for you? What are you, a spy?

I'm just kidding. I was just trying to say if you wanted to hide the fact that you have it and make people think you crawled up a rock, open, but used it, it is harder to do with the air compressor making noise. I can hear Ted's when he turns his on.

Not trying to say anything bad. Should have thrown the smileys on that last post.

Most of the noise the compressor makes is at first turn on when it's pumping up the tank. The lock itself takes very little and never enough to kick on the pump again. How often it comes on really depends on the plumping I guess. Mine rarely comes on, maybe every couple of hours.

I got a rear ARB on the KJ, front and rear on the TJ.

I don't see why a tank wouldn't work but the ARB compressor is so small WTF.

They need something like ~80psi to stay locked and 90 or so to lock
like DaveKJ02 said the compressor comes on every now and then but not real often and the better you "seal" the system the better it will hold air
I have the compact compressor mounted under the driver seat and I can hear it when it comes on but it is not bad at all
the cost of that compressor is so cheeeeeeeep compaired to others out there that IMO it is the only way to go but it is only good for 2 lockers and NOTHING else

the easy way to look at it is that it needs 90 psi to lock and stay locked if you loose air it will unlock and you need more air to lock it again

Right, thanks guys. I hadn't thought of the possibility of slight leaks. Jason, what make of compressor do you have, and was it tough getting it set up under the seat? How did you manage the portal between inside the vehicle (compressor) to the outside (locker)? How did you seal it? I'm wondering about vibration of the line against the body where it passes thru.

The new smaller slimer ARB compressor is great, works a treat and is only good for the use of 2 lockers. Its quick & quiet. I've got mine mounted under the Left hand side front seat (your drivers side). Its only usually on for 5-6 seconds at most each time I use it.

Why not mount it under the hood?
