That is a lot of lube for the back room.

If you get some ramps, please becareful when you drive up and down them. They can slip out from under the tires and send your vehicle, in this case the Liberty, crashing down to the ground. I can't even see the filter from the top - stupid mechanical fan.

If you prefill the oil filter, subtract that amount from your 5 qt total.

the ramps I have, have rubber feet on them with a no slip surface can't tell you how many times I've used them & never had a problem BUT I agree you can never be too careful

Ohh bless, what do you do with 5 quarts of oil in the back room?!?!?!

Maybe I could have worded that differently...

Besides, isn't synthetic a little over the top for the 'back room' activity?

Putting the Jeep in Part-time before driving up the ramps will help keep down any slip with the ramps.

Thanks racinfan, Like I said, I was hesitant to go with the plastic ramps, but knowing I can use them, it has taken another 10-15 minutes of messing around with a jack (on both sides of the vehicle, and then jackstands, and then letting her back down) off my oil change schedule.... not to mention I can now do it in my garage without having to have to worry about the jack handle hitting my wifes car....

Hey DonkeyKong, I have the '06 manual sport, and yes, you can deal with the oil filter from the top (under the hood) no problem. I find it very satisfying to do my own oil change. I KNOW the mobil 1 is REALLY Mobil1, and that it is the right viscosity, and that I have a Quality filter(I like the napa gold, which is a wix and highly thought of).
Good luck!
By the way, that 1st oil change was a BIT** do to the factory tightness of the filter.

I have the filter wrench that is like an oversize pair of pliers.... other than that, an enourmous set of channel locks is also good....

Problem with ramps is you want to be on a level surface when changing oil. Unless of course you are using 4 ramps.

I've never had a problem draining all the oil out... just make sure you check the oil level again once the vehicle is level.

as far as the filter, I had no trouble getting it off with my massive donkeykong grip 8)

I just finished changing my oil 10 minutes ago and it only took me 20 minutes from start to end... compared to my prior cars.... a bunch of hondas, and a VW golf, this truck couldn't be easier. I was suprised that there was a 13mm drain plug, but it was great. I am hoping that everything else on this vehicle maintenence wise will be as straight forward and simple as the oil change.

I hope you did that job inside.

You should have heard mine rattle after work the last couple of day when I fired it up after being parked downtown in the cold all day.

Actually, it was... I had just gone to a DIY car wash and the jeep was all icy and I put my ramps too close to the door and forgot about the tyre on the back and ended up doing it with the door open... I got ice burn from the swaybar when I was installing the filter, but other than that I think that it might have gone fast because I was in a tee shirt and it's -3 degrees outside. (I was in the garage, but the door was open)
