What fun! Saturday's run was exciding. In attendance from the lost board where WV(0)IIIIIII(0), chefdab, Dave02KJ, and I. There was one other person there in a stock sliver KJ. I saw him go out but never got to meet him. About three inches of snow adorned the park which led to a few rear puckering slides. Kyle from Paragon told me he thought it was the largest crowed they ever had. About twice as many 4X4's showed up as he expected.
A figure that wasn't too hard to fathom. Just getting into the Exxon to fuel was a bit of a challenge. When I went into pay, the line was to the door. Registration wasn't looking any better. I never seen a line stretch out past the split-rail fence into the parking lot.
Down at the staging area. Everyone gathered to hear Kyle give a tearful speech about the parks closing. The facilities at Hazelton are gone, but Paragon AP Inc. still remains. Hopes are for the near future to reopen at a new location.
Soon it was off to the trails. Chefdab, WV(0)IIIIIII(0), and I was able to hook up with a small group. Are trails ran like this
- thru Play area to
- Turtle (which was backed up buy three to four groups ahead of us).
- We detoured to get around them by going Alley Oop (4)
- Coal Road
- 25
- after stopping for lunch
- Valley Road (11)
- Doe Run Rocks (89)
- Good the bad and the ugly (74)
- Rock Swamp (86)
- wanted to go Woodpecker but was backed up also.
- so we started back on Logging Road (76)
- Logging trail (73)
- First Pipe Line (71)
- Doe Run (88
By now it was time to head out. We went for Valley Road to Coal Road. Valley Road proved to be fun. By the end of the day all the Jeeps that had been over it. Turned the snow into a soft Ice. Going down the hill was slow and steady. It took about a hour to get from the top of Valley Road to the parking lot.
Sad to see the day end. Paragon at Hazelton will be missed. Hopefully someday soon the park will reopen elsewhere. Full of new challenges and trails to explore.
