I finally got around to cleaning the air intake sensor this weekend. It was pretty packed with CRuD. Then it ran great Sunday through Tuesday. Smooth, quiet, lots of power, and the overhead was showing about a 20% increase in MPG. I was very happy.

Then yesterday it started back to its old tricks and its noisey and rough again, and the MPG has dropped back to the high teens. One idea I had is the battery was disconnected for about 2 hours while I puttered around changing the oil and rotating the tires, etc. I wonder if resetting the computer caused it to run good for a few days? I have to work late tonight but tomorrow at work I'm going to disconnect it again.

I'm really baffled - any ideas? It was great for those couple of days - I had almost completely forgiven it for everything else... :?

I figure I'm on my own here - I don't see how I could get explain this to a dealer.

Sorry, can't help you unless you got a bad batch of fuel and the filter is FUBAR'D. I just cleaned mine last weekend, and it was clogged with gunk. I wasn't having any issues before I cleaned it, or after. Same same.

I am assuming you are talking about the boost pressure sensor and not the MAF on the airbox.

That said have you checked the electrical connection or the actual mechanical connection for leaks?

otherwise I would supect bad fuel or the sensor has failed due to improper cleaning, install or just dumb luck.

OldNavy - you are right, I meant boost pressure sensor in the manifold. I never thought to check the electrical connection - duh. Sure would be nice if it was a simple fix.

If that doesn't work I'll probably swing by Jeep and see if I can get a replacement sensor. I'd be happy to spend the bucks to get that good running jeep back - having it for a few days was a tease. I haven't fueled up since cleaning the sensor, so it's probably not fuel related.

Thanks,

My guess then is the thing has loose conector or has come loose where it enters the manifold. That or you just had bad luck and it crapped out on you and that is not related to cleaning unless it was dropped or damaged in the reinstall after cleaning and finally failed.

My money is on bad connection or faulty sensor, I really can't imagine someone damaging the thing.
