I can vouch for the pulling power of the KJ too. When I worked at the dealership we didn't have a "tow rig." When I started they would always push cars around the whole building. Well come summer time and the midwest heat and humidity, I got tired of pushing. I finally grabbed the KJ hooked up the truck they were going to push. From that day forward my KJ yanked every dead vehicle around the building. Then we had a Ram 3500 dullie with a gooseneck 20' or so trailer filled with roofing debris that died at our entrance. The service manager wanted to call a tow service and have it moved that way. Hopped in the KJ and procceded to pull both of them around the building without breaking a sweat. But that's not what this thread is about. Wendell all I can say is hopefully one day the naysayers will shut up and deal with the change that is IFS without crying a river of crocidile tears. IFS is here to stay untill the next hotness shows up. And when something that is "better" comes along they will probally still be complaining that it's not a SFA. Run what you brung and most of all enjoy the time with your family, nature, friends or whatever the reason you wheel is. Me personally I wouldn't trade wheeling with my son for anything. I don't care if its IFS or SFA so long as it gets me where I want to go. At this point though I do want a SFA so I can go farther.

Well Wendall, since your the one who started this great thread,I deticate this story to you.....Oh yeh,and we might otta call our JU fans and non-Liberty owners to read this, for it is true.

My boss sent a co-worker out in our parking lot today to hook up to a F-250 dually deisel with a J-Hook and pull it into the shop cause it was too cold for it to start. Our wrecker is a F-350 deisel sling lift. With another co-worker in the disabled truck our wrecker driver eased out and took slack from the chain in hopes to pull the disabled truck around the building and into the shop.As soon as the slack was gone in the chain our wrecker sunk in about 6 inches of snow with hard pack below that.at this point the chain was tight and our wrecker would neither go forward or backwards. My boss turned to me and said "Do you think that little libberty of yours might be able to pull the disabled truck into the shop if we cut the chain from our wrecker?"I said "NO need to waste a good chain,Ill just hook to our wrecker and pull them both around and into the shop." At this point I was remembering a story about a man who once pulled a semi-tractor,in neutral,up a long snowy grade with his liberty.I jumped at the chance to see if this story could be true,so I hooked up to the now stuck Deisel Duo.I pulled all the way up into 4Low,eased down on the throttle, and all three vehicles were moving with what seemed to be little effort. When I got around the building and into our drive thru shop, all seven employees were standing there with their mouths wide open.I heard things like "No way","I can"t believe this" and so on.After today I can testify that the little liberty has proved to be a GREAT all purpose vehicle. And you can quote me on this!

It is a great tower. Reminds me....I once saw a guy pull a train car single handed with a rope.

Great stories guy's, I love to hear them. They say dogs favor thier masters, in the same token, I think kj owners favor thir jeeps, thier civilized yet tough. I guess what I'm getting at is how kj owners act on the forums compared to the wrangler or xj crowd. I'm a wrangler owner most of the time and will be again as soon as I find the right deal on a yj, so it doesn't apply to everyone. But to a large extent, the wrangler crowd can be rude and down right mean at times, some are helpfull. It just seems like the liberty attracks a different breed of people I've noticed. I wheel where I've allways wheeled, in the mountains of W,Va, so alot of people see my kj, but not like they might on the more famous trails. Actually, it was my cousin who got me interested in the kj as she went wheeling with us, "yes", I did say she, but home girl can wheel. She bought her 04 and stock she was keeping up with my modded ranger, ground clearence was the only thing that messed her up at times, but I was impressed. I let her take my ranger and the wife and I took her kj for a while and it was a love fest from there on. My wife started riding with her instead of me, We wheel all day, then camp over night where ever we decide to stop. Swap stories by the camp fire, sleep under the stars, it's a great time. There's no place that we go that ifs vehicle can't go with a lift, tires and a traction adding device, alot of places you can go stock, but there's some rough sections as well. I guess thats why ifs doesn't bother me, it never stopped me from going where I wanted to go. But it's a great time with family and friends. Even in deer season, we wheel more than we hunt at times. I've killed more deer from the cab of my truck than on the ground ha ha.

We don't get a huge amount of respect out here. Last summer, we went wheeling up the Mt. Princeton trial. We eventually got to the top, and there was a group of Wranglers up there. I said hi, and didn't get ANY responce. My feeling was, they were questioning what the hell I was doing there. I know they heard me coming from a 1/2 mile away with the CRD barking. Probably the same guys who think they own the lake when I show up with my canoe.

Guys I will be one to tell you
I can almost see why those guys say what they say it is mostly that they never see a KJ out on a trail but they see them all day "at the mall"

I wheel all the time and in a lot of different places and I can count on one hand with out using my thumb how many KJ's I have seen out on the trails
counting my own

I have been trying to show the groups that I wheel with that the KJ can go ,yeah I can not wheel the harder trails that are rated 6+ on a JJ scale but I know that the KJ was not built for that
I also know that over the past 3+ years that I have been bringing out my KJ I have changed more than a few minds
even a few of the "hard core" "big boys" have said how they were surprised at how well it does
They also ask why other dont wheel theres ,seeing as how well they do, and why is mine the only one that they ever see on the trail
the only answer is "I have no idea"
They know that I am a member here and can not beleve that I am one of only 2 yes 2 with in 100 miles of New Orleans that has a 4X4 KJ and wheels it but saidly it is very true

If you guys want them to think differently then get out and be seen
join a local club surf the web for when and where the next trail rides will be and GO
If that does not happen they the "new jeeps' will never get the respect they deserve because they will be right
I can say I have changed minds can you?
Jason

Aren't you the guy who's been flaming on the new JK's because you think they're mall crawlers?

I'm just sayin' is all...

Sorry about the spammy post...

Something productive:
I would rather see SFA on jeeps. It's a matter of the ability to be easily fixed and whatnot, but I am open to new ideas. I think it could also be that IFS is so poorly executed on most other "offroad" vehicles that it kinda gives it a bad name even on the most capable of IFS vehicles. I know from experience that the KJ is a hell of a vehicle, but again, in all honesty I would have rather seen SFA. I understand the IFS benefits and that when done right (as in the KJ- we'll see how the patriot does) it can make for an impressivley capable vehicle. I have nothing against it, I just prefer the robustness of SFA when it comes to abuse-oriented vehicles. It's still a jeep though :D .

The Military HMMWV (in civillian terms: HUMMER) is IFS and it doesn't have any problems???

If I wanted a fred flinstone mobile - I would have bought a Cherokee back in 2001 when they were still for sale. IFS is a much better compromise for the general buying public. And if people haven't learned a jeep is built, not bought.... Geez

So the Wrangler owners admit to spending all day at the mall? Interesting, I avoid the mall and stick to the soccer fileds and grocery store. Malls are too rough these days.

The original HMMWV (high mobility multi wheeled vehicle) doesn't need a lift.. As equiped it can scale a 2' vertical wall (or was it 1.5'? I can't remember) But my point isn't that it's more capable or not - it's that the ARMY (i.e. the guys who use their vehicles about 75% off road and cross country) made the switch to IFS, and IRS actually almost 30 years back.

great pictures of the military version as released by the US Army: http://www.us-army-info.com/pages/pics/hummer2.html

Two different things here. Lift......endless possibilities.
IFS...........road savy, capable off roader. I don't think Hummers need a lift. They speak for themselves.

Well, with bumper-to-bumper traffic jam on the way to the mall looking like this:

I don't blame them when people get a little upset.

Come on, green ZJ, move it!!

Over the years I have had everything from F150s, F250 High boys, Early and later style Broncos, 1977/78 4WD Dodge vans, Wagoneers, Willys Jeepster, 1,M38, 3, XJs, 1 CJ, even a Plymouth Fury on a Ramcharger frame, the thing is they were all SFAs and each was built for a purpose, each one getting higher, more expensive to operate, more difficult to drive as they progressed. Of all the ones I have had since 1975, the one I enjoy the most is the Liberty. Well except for the soft place in my heart for early style Broncos. What I am getting at is the Liberty is a great all around vehicle, I know that I can jump in it and go to Utah wheel for a week and drive back home and have no problems. All the others I have had would go over more rocks, deeper creeks etc maybe, but they never had as many miles, comfortable miles, put on them as I have put on the Liberty. Yes I agree that SFA would be nice but right now I dont think if I had one sitting in my driveway that I would drive it as much as I do mine now. Simply because the ride would not be as nice etc. The heck with what others think Lets wheel the Libertys until the cows come home and most of the others are sitting behind the barn rusting!

Yes I am not a fan of the JK but for reasons other than what makes the KJ a "mall crawler"

as I said if YOU like then fine but to ME it does not replace the past wranglers
and the 2wd 4 door proves that it was not built to do that
If the 2wd is not proof enough then look at the add's on TV
Tony Hawk sliding down a hand rail in a RUBICON???
I thought that the rubicon was built to be the most capable jeep ever if so then by that add. it is the most capable "mall crawler" ever

The KJ on the other hand was not built to replace the wrangler but to replace the XJ and does an OK job of it
it fills the gap for the "older" folks who want to get out in the woods but also want a good hwy ride wich makes the KJ better for that than the XJ was

2 different markets

Anyone see the new KJ commercial/ They are running through mud all over the place and then the driver pulls up to a kid with stand (think lemonade) out on the trail and buys a bottle of windshield washer fluid.

Yeah. And at the end of the commercial, a Compass pulls up a two track road with a box of washer fluid to replace the kids stock. It's a great commercial!
