Other than legal or environmental concerns, what happens if the EGR is disconnected? CEL? If one would choose to disconnect the EGR, should it be done when the engine is completely cold so it is at it's closed position? This is only brought up for purely hypotethical discussion. thanks.

"Completly closed position" relates to the egr flow control valve on the driver's side of the engine and it's electricly operated. The egr valve is on the passenger side and is operated by vacume. You would have to disconnect both I would think. I've only seen one person who indicated he might have his disabled  I would bet it would throw a cel and it's anyone's guess how then engine management would react.

The EGR valve and the EGR flow control valve are on the driver's side and are electrically operated. The vacuum actuator on the passenger side is probably the one for the VNT. It has been posted that disconnecting the EGR flow control valve will disable the whole EGR system. Disconnecting either will set a CEL according to the manual.
