I think thats what I'm going to go with. I went off roading with my buddies a bit yesterday around these farms and through the woods around them and it threw my KJ out of alignment so I figured I'll talk to the people at the dealership about it when I go to get it re-aligned and have the oil changed next week

Take your time and add your mods slowly so you can have what you really want...otherwise you will end up regretting. If you want to keep it resonable look at BDS's suspension lift. Thats what I have...it's a 2' front and a 1.5' rear lift. I have 245/75 cooper stt's and it look great, rides better than it did stock and will be more functionable on trails than a spacer lift. The price was resonable and it was easy to install. Just another option for you. Here's a link to BDS and a pic of my jeep in the pics forum.

Do they sell lifts for an 05?

The problem for me is that my KJ is mainly used on road .. only off road when we find a trail ( and until the cops find that trail :? ) so I think the spacers would suit me fine. I can't really find a reason to justify spending that much more money for a full kit.

BDS doesn't list a lift for an '05 KJ but it may be that their web-site isn't completely up to date. You could always send them a mail and ask? I hear what you are saying about the cost thing. You could spend all of this months salary...and next months...and still be wanting more! If it just looks you are after than the spacer lift will give it to you. But if down the road you ever want to challenge yourself...and your jeep...wait a month or two till you have the cash and get a suspension lift. Best of luck :D

Do you have to replace the rear shocks? I don't want it to look very lifted, just enough to fit the wheels/tires.

Well, techically, you don't have to, but your kidneys will beg you for it sooner or later. In reality, if you do not change the rear shocks, your suspension will be very rigid, and you will feel each and every imperfection on the road.

On the other hand, larger shocks will not lift your rig any more than what the spacers will provide. They will only compensate for the extra displacement your lifted rear will have, and keep your suspension feeling smooth. In fact, I am now looking for beefier coil springs, since even with the Ranchos, the rear bottoms out once in a while.

Will this void my factory warranty? ( Installing the spacer lift that is ) and if so what parts?

Thanks

Only the suspension (actualy the modified parts), although I know of some dealers that will honor your warranty if the installation is done by them (at least in Mexico). I do not know what would happen elsewhere.

Alright I'll ask them when I go in to get it aligned

On another note does anyone know of a nice offroad tire that will also be fine for a daily driver that will fit the stock 05' renegade rims? I love the color matching and I'm having a hard time parting with them for the rubicon wheels

If not does anyone know of a cool black rim that will fit mtr's?

Thanks

How about the BFG AT KO 245/75/16s? I got mine installed and they are truly a nice all around tire.

Try to look at other all terrain options as well. There are certainly more models that will fit your stock rims.

Good luck.

To be honest I'm new to all of this and I'm definately ignorant when it comes to this subject. What does each part of the measurement stand for on the tire ( length width etc ) and how can multiple sizes fit the stock rims?

I think the stock renegade rims are 225/75/16 but I honestly don't remember .. I'll check in a minute. What should I be looking for?

Sorry to be so ignorant :( gotta learn somewhere

Tire sizes are normally listed in 3 numbers...example, 245/75/16.

The first number is simply the width ofthe tire (245 mm).

The second number is a percentage of the sidewall height compared to width...example the sidewall is 75% of 245mm.

The third number is for your rim and the diameter of it.

So you can have different sized rubber as long as the last number refers to your rim size and it will fit on your vehicle. There ae load and speed ratings as well along with different ply's of tires. Hope that helped.

I know there is a tire chart in the tech section, maybe we should add information on the tire "sizes" etc, including what the load and speed ratings mean, including rim sizes. I'm still learning myself about tires and rims.

Yeah that helped a lot Titan. I feel like I know something about it now at least.

How is it that different width tires can fit on a 16 inch rim? Wouldnt there be different widths for different rims too? I could see how you could squeeze a wider tire onto a thin rim from mountain biking experience but then wouldnt it be dangerous at higher speeds?

How is it possible that different width tires can fit on a single rim? Wouldnt that be unsafe? I can see how the sidewall height would differ safely, but when the tires hang out over the edge of the rim isnt that unsafe?

We can get away with a little wider tires mountain biking ( which I actually know something about heh ) since we don't put nearly as much stress on the tires ( I have michelins that are red and they look awesome .. they hang out about a cm over the rim on each side and I have never gotten a flat ). Maybe its because car tires are more heavy duty?

I am having a real problem with this lift thing. Ok, don't people put winches and bull bars on the HD Spring lifts. How is that different from my CRD. I just don't get the logic. The Bull Bar and Winch are surely much heavier than my CRD is compared to the V6. Someone please help me figure this out. It doesn't add up or make sense in my mind. I remember we had a discussion about this a while back and the consensus is Daystar. But why can you put 800 lbs on the front of a v6 with hd springs and not have a crd which is only like 300 lbs heavier in the front.
