TOKYO -- The Renault-Nissan auto alliance has scratched itself from the list of potential buyers of DaimlerChrysler's Chrysler division, despite exploring a North American partnership last year.

Tokyo-based Nissan, 44 percent owned by Renault SA of France, is always open new alliances but in no rush to do so now because it is focusing on its own financial woes, spokeswoman Madoka Soma said Wednesday.

I heard on fox news lastnight that the GM bid idn't going to happen either. No one wants chrysler, Diamler is going to have to pay someone to take it ha ha. Ford is trying to sell austin martin, maybe than make a swap. JP Morgan had shown some interest, but haven't heard anymore about that either. Some un-named source at Diamler said they would shut chrysler down, before they would let it continue to loose money. They don't have much heart when the going gets a little tuff.

I also heard that none of the french companies want to purchase Chrysler either... So Mercedes Benz is just going to have to spin them back off or suffer through the down turn and work more collaborativly to build products that people actually want to buy.

There are a lot of things that DCX would do before it would shut Chrysler down. Selling is the easiest option given it's assets and commitments. Massive restructuring of the product line and it's constituent facilities would probably be more likely. I wouldn't want to be a upper or midlevel manager there these days.

I just read this morning that another car company has backed out of the "bidding" process for the Chrysler nameplate. It looks like if there is a sale at all, Chrysler will just go back to being on their own again.

However, I still don't think anything will happen... It's all just a bunch of media hype

Dodge/Chrysler/Jeep have done really well in the past few years. The Jeep label has become popular and the demand for Jeeps from a world wide point of view is why we are seeing new “evolved” Jeeps. Diesel applications are popping up everywhere. Dodge Trucks have been stopping ever since they came out with the Cummins. After Ford’s last generation of the unstable Powerstroke, they are trying to recover from their lose. Dodge Cummins continue to increase year after year in production and sells. Cummins continued contract with DCX must be strong as Cummins is now in the process of making diesel applications for the Durango, Dakota, and other DCX applications. DCX is really starting to tap into the world wide market and pushing forward with alternative energy. Investors and stock holders will always change the restructuring of DCX, but my uneducated guess from an outsider looking in would be that DCX seems to be secure.

In my opinion, the big problem has been the germans arrogance in their handling of the Chrysler group. Toyota, Nissan share several body/chassis between their premium brands and their popular priced brands. There are relatively few common components between Mercedes and Chrysler/Dodge Jeep. The components they do share are handed down after the Mercedes group has developed and moved on to the next generation. The biggest example that I can think of is the suspension and drive train of the 300/Magnum/Charger and that mostly geometry. Mercedes components were aluminum vs steel in the Chryslers as I understand it. Just my 2 cents.

I think I just saw chrysler on ebay ha ha.
The germans have no stomach for the union, thier still made because the union didn't budge in the last contract. Chrysler over produced 80,000 units in 06 to full fill the union contract, thats the straw that broke the camels back. When I sold dodges back in 04, the neon was the best selling car that chrysler had, thier other good sellers were of course minivans, suv's and trucks, the car line was struggling. They have since updated thier car line, so we'll see. But the big 3 are all in a mess and they've all taken steps to survive, unloading chrysler is Diamlers step. I don't want to be a biarer of bad news, but chrysler may not survive this, however, I don't think they would have any problem selling the jeep nameplate alone. I think jeep will survive even if chrysler doesn't

Jeep would be easier to sell simply because they have been selling their product and trying to create new markets all along. Liberties helped to save Jeep when it came out. The Liberty put a lot of quick cash into Jeep. Plus with the newer factory here in Toledo and the way it is set up with different suppliers right on the same location it makes it easier to switch a game plan in mid stream so to speak. Suppiers are not in another state or thousands of miles away. Its a great setup. Several different auto manufacturers have actually toured the plant here to see how well it is working. So Jeep will continue, Chrysler will but will have big problems
