JJ,

Don't get a hernia lifting those things alone.

Which hammertone? Don't they make a bronze and silver?

hmmmm.....wonder how that brown hammered would look w/ the khaki?
maybe the gold? hmmmm...... i am sure I will end up going w/ the black or grey and then gettting the flares rhino'd.

Glad you're happy with the bumpers. Ted and I ran to Denver last night to pick up a couple CO2 tanks, and the guy we met with had his full width axles on jack stands waiting to go under his TJ. The axles were painted with the Rustoleum Hammered Black, like what I use on all my own stuff, but the testure and thickness was much better than anything I had done. I always spraypainted with the hammered, but he used a cheap brush and the quart can of the stuff and just went to town. Even brushing it on, the hammered textured worked even better than the spray can, and you couldn't tell it was just slapped on with a paint brush. If you want a thicker coat, use the quart can with a paint brush. The quarts are even cheaper than using the aerosol cans, and he painted an HPD44 and a D60, and a few other things I forget now, and still had atleast a 1/4 can when Ted checked it. If you see my jeep in Moab and it is Hammered Green, you will know how I did it, because I can't spray a vehicle with my current facilities.

Anyways, as for the other rear bumpers, only those that needed sandblasting have yet to ship, and like Ted said earlier in this thread, they are just waiting my turn in line at the sandblaster. It's looking to be Tuesday evening or most likely Wednesday during the day when they get blasted. So, come Thursday/Friday, my UPS guy will love me, because that is a bunch of rear bumpers.

Got mine installed two weekends ago. Grey hammertone. No sandblasting. First wash it in TSP (Spic and Span) then a vinegar wash.

Bought a license plate holder from JC Whitney.

Did it myself and it took some trickery. First use a jack to hold the skid plate in place good and solid. Try to get the holes centered. Then do a lift of the unit onto the ledge of the KJ. If you set it on there you should be able to get a couple of bolts started without things falling off. It'll stay on that ledge pretty solid but you aren't sure then lean something heavy against the back of the bumper to keep it from slidng back. I did the fitup and flare trim before prep and paint.

You'll need some plastic rivets to reattach the flares.

Thanks for the tip, I think I'll go that route.

Question, though: If you're using Rustoleum, does sandblasting really make that big a difference? Especially if you're slapping it on with a brush?

You da man! Who'da thunk a computer geek could install one of these beasts by himself?

I'm going to have to either drive to CO to have Marty hook me up, or get a computer geek buddy from work to help me. (I pre-ordered a front bumper, though, not a rear--dunno if it's easier or harder.)

Bill, Are you going to do the bumper yourself? If you do and would like some help, put up some dates on the Carolina and MA sites and some of us will see about helping out.
