Was on the highway this evening when my right rear Goodyear Wrangler ST P215/75R16 blew out - it still had a bunch of tread on it - has there been any issues with this light truck tire?

Should I replace just the blown out tire, or go ahead and get 5 new ones that are more heavy duty? If so, what would be suggested that is in a similar price range.

The oem st's are not light truck tires,they are passenger car tires.You might have ran over something or just had a bad tire,who knows.Probally better off getting a better tire,not going to recommend any cause I'm a little baised about GoodYear MT/R's.My 2 cents though.

So what you are saying is that Jeep went cheap and spec'ed a car tire for my suv - these are the 2nd set that I had - took her to the shop a year ago for new tires and the shop said THIS P215 was the only size allowed by Jeep to go on this model.

Obviously - the tire must be not strong enough for a fully loaded SUV - should I go with a P225 or a P235.

Was looking at the BF Goodrich Radial Long Trail T/A P235/70TR16

There are 2 tire sizes available on the KJ, 215/75R16 and 235/70R16.You can use ether,you can also use 245/70R16's on a stock KJ with no rubbing.The BFG Longtrail is a way better tire for the KJ then the ST's(at least the BFG is a LT tire),go for it.Good luck.Also tell that shop they can stick there "a 215 is the only size allowed" up there a&^!!!!!!!!!!!!

Thanks for the info. The only P235/70R16 any of my local tire dealers had in stock was the Uniroyal Laredo Cross Country - I went ahead and made the purchase since I could not find anything negative on them.

Does anyone have any info on the Uniroyal Laredo Cross Country?

On a side note, a Goodyear dealer told me that 255/70/16's are the recommended tire size for my vehicle (looking at the Wrangler Silent Armor). I asked if he was sure and he checked the book and said I wouldnt have a problem. I'm unlifted and stock all around, is this true or was he just talking out of his stupid? I thought 245's were the largest I could go without some kind of rubbing?

The only time a tire will blow out is if it's overloaded or underinflated (which is essentially the same thing)

I've run nothing but standard load tires on all my 4x4s, and regardless of load, i've never had a blowout, not even when hauling heavy stuff with my Liberty (which is on 235/70-16s, which don't have a significantly higher load carrying capacity than your 215s)

255/70-16s are NOT going to fit without about some lift, either...so...this is a good excuse to go up a couple inches and tell the ol lady "yeah, those are the tires they recommended...but it needed a lift, so i did that too!"

the Laredo Cross Country is a good tire. I wouldn't recommend it if you do any real 4 wheeling, but it should be enough to get up and down muddy, snowy roads to your winter house or whatever you do. they do well in snow and most any inclement weather:)

I lost 2 of the 222/75 badyears on the CRD in 18,000 miles. Have run a set of 245/70s from a different manufacturer for 12,000 now with half the wear showing, way more traction and control under the same conditions.

a 255/70/16 tire will not fit on a stock liberty without some rubbing.

A 215/75/16 tire on the liberty is way to small for the weight of the vehicle. Jeep puts crappy tires on the liberty in its stock form..
