Yesterday I spent some time under the hood of the Liberty and noticed I had a small power steering fluid leak coming off one of the hoses. I started to scope out what it would take to change it out when I discovered there is probably 10 feet of power steering hose / metal line under the hood. One would guess that it is for cooling purposes, but there is also a power steering cooler mounted in front of the radiator. Did the engineers under estimate the amount of heat generated by the steering?

Something else that caught my attention was an apparent pressure transducer on one of the PS lines.

Just curious if anyone knows anything about it.

If the Engineers underestimated the heat that was produced by the PS, they wouldnt of put that cooler there.

All of the libbys with the 45rfe tranny got the PS cooler from the factory and the tranny cooler was an option that came with the towing pack. After they switched to the 42rle tranny, the Aux tranny cooler came on all models and the PS cooler came with the offroad pack(I think) and the towing pack.

When offroad, you are doing alot of turning(also when towing), so thats the reason for the cooler.

My power steering pump has been leaking since I got the Jeep. I didnt really catch it till after the 3yr warranty was up though. :x

I had a leak on my power steering pressure hose, my buddy and I looked at it and thought it would be horrendous to change out. My dealer did the job in 1/2 hour under warranty, go figure! Joe

Hmm, maybe I have a hose leaking also. Ive never looked at it really well, but I just figured it was a bad seal on the pump itself. Ill check it out next week. :)

im not sure about the availabilty of powersteering hoses were you are, but i just got mine replaced under warrenty. It took them about a month and a half to get them in. they were backoredered past toronto(im in saskatchewan) How ever the dealership did scavenge a used set off of an 05 on thier lot just to keep me going till the new set came in maybe thats a cold weather problem kjs should watch for.....
