Now, here's the fun part ... if you use the keyfob to lock the car (and open/close driver side door) then any attempt to unlock the car without using the keyfob WILL sound the horn. This happens regardless of whether someone inside the car unlocks it, or if you walked up to it and insert key and turn.

Sounds like fun. I'll have to try that when I get out of this darn cube.

Deadbolts.
Here is a link to the full article. It would be very effective on the jeep, despite needing to do it on 4 doors.

Just an idea I remembered from my import days.

Heck one of the reasons I like my KJ being modded out is that it sticks out...thus if it gets stolen it will be easy for someone to say, yea I saw that liberty with the roof basket and spare tire on the roof and whatever else it's over there...police go and get the guy and I get my rig back eventually

I know the computerized key needs to be used or it shuts off in 3 seconds. Other than that do the horns honk or anything if someone breaks in?

OK the LED may not be blinking ... I forget. It's definitely in the cluster and will come on when you use the keyfob to lock the car.

Now, here's the fun part ... if you use the keyfob to lock the car (and open/close driver side door) then any attempt to unlock the car without using the keyfob WILL sound the horn. I think you're correct. On my Liberty (07 obviously) the red blinking light in the panel never lights up. To my understanding all the newer Libertys have the Sentry key standard, but that doesn't mean it has the "security group"...which has the blinking red light.

After owning my Jeep only three weeks, somebody attempted to steal it in front of my house this past weekend. They tried to pop off the door handle...and in doing so caused about $900 in damage by prying some of the surrounding metal around the handle.

If your Jeep is like mine Mac, then you don't have the blinking light.

There's a local dealer here that sells quite a bit of factory items for less than I can find anywhere online.

The Mopar alarm EVS I (82209700AB) system is only around $135 at my local dealer and their installation can't be too much.

Good luck!

Ha! Enviromental security!

Really, if you don't know anybody who's had a problem before, then I'm guessing you're in a low risk area. Keep it locked, hide your CDs under the seat, don't leave cash on the dashboard, use common sense and you'll probably save money by not putting in a security system. Consider the risk/likelihood of theft vs. the cost of prevention.

Wait a couple of weeks to do anything if your KJ is new to you. I slept in the back seat with a shotgun the first couple of weeks after I bought my KJ. Then I bought a plasma tv and decided I'd rather sleep in front of that.

I'm not sure if anyone else has noticed this. When I lock the doors with the windows down (I know, why lock the doors) if I pull up on the door lock instead of using my key to get back in, the alarm goes off.

I guess this would be to prevent someone from reaching in if you left a window cracked on a hot day and unlocking it that way.

Actually it's to make the alarm go off after someone has smashed your window to open the door from the inside. AFAIK the jeep doesn't have the glass sensors which make the alarm go off if the glass is smashed, it only goes off if the door is opened when the car is locked. (try sitting inside the car with the windows up, press the lock button on your key fob and then open the door. the alarm should go off.)

If they can't steal it then the usually vandalize it out of frustration.

If they want it they will get it.

Dummy lights do deter

Stickers deter

Kill switch works

Hook (lock) it up to a trailer full of junk

I don't even lock my doors as the damage they cause to open them is more $$$ and aggrevation than the stuff inside.

Mount a lock box under the seat (bolted to the floor) for your stereo face, and pistol, it will fit.

Hang a rag soaked with axle fluid around where you park it. Humans work by smell more than you'll ever believe. They will usually stay away from the area.

Keep the vehicle dirty

Yes, they'll cut the steering wheel.

I have chains and seperate locks for every item I keep in my vehicle including the ice chest. It makes stealing things more trouble than its worth.

GOOD LUCK

Bacteria grows in the axle lube making it smell like a dumpster outside of a cheap restarunt in the middle of a hot summer. That is more true of older vehicles which the axles have seen water and it has sat. The lube (i think) is an organic material so bacteria can thrive if the vehicle has sat for any length of time. The same is true with machines.... if you don't run a machine for a while the coolant will begin to stink because of bacteria growth. It's actually pretty gross.
