'03 Renegade - Steering has been perfect on this thing since I purchsed it (3 months ago). All of a sudden, this morning the steering feels incredibly loose. When I drive over a bump, it feels like the steering wheel is being pulled to one side, and I need to fight it to bring it back to center. Any idea what would cause a sudden onset of loose steering? I was thinking possibly alignment issue, but I figured that would start to show itself over time, not all at once.

Check for torn steering rack bushings? Mine did that when the driver-side was torn. It would bounce a bit after settling down from going over bumps.

It's not possible that this is related to the LBJ problem, it it? (loose steering, drifting into other lanes when driving straight). They were replace a few months ago when I bought it, but I seem to recall reading some posts where people are on their 2nd or 3rd sets of these things. What a pain.

mine had an inch of play in the steering when it had no miles on it, other than them not tightening one of the major bolts holding the front end together while changing the steering rack, no problems since.

Tires look good, I am thinking something more internal. There is a click click click sound when slowing down (at a speed where I can actually here it over the road/wind noise).
