Thanks for the picture. Do you notice any benefits after adding the aftermarket tranny cooler, or does it just give you more piece of mind knowing the tranny isn't getting as hot?
Well the tranny has never overheated yet in 5 years.I've done alot off deep mud driving(not anymore,to hard to clean and with bioD out now used fryer grease is hard to come by) and have towed 3500lbs+(for 1500+ miles through the mountain passes) without any issues.I guess it's alot more of piece of mind, but with the hotter temps newer vehicles run at I like to keep my tranny cool.By the way that tranny cooler is rated for a vehicle of 26,000lbs gvwr and I bought it at Advance Auto for like $30.

Ok.........Last 2 Questions !!!
I'm pissed that I didn't order the Offroad group, and now I'm concerned about keeping the tranny cool and lasting a long, long time.
I've seen so much conflicting information, I'm not sure what is what anymore.

1. Does the 2007 Auto Liberty come with a Tranny Cooler?
2. If so, is this the same Tranny Cooler that comes with the Towing and Offroad packages, or do they have a bigger or additional tranny cooler?

Easy to find follow the 2 hoses that come off the tranny and follow them if they both go to the radiator only then no aux cooler
if one goes to the trany and the other some place else then aux cooler is there to my knowlage any way

I just got a reply back from Jeep:
According to our information, the transmission cooler is not standard
equipment on the Jeep Liberty and is only available from the factory if
built with a trailer tow kit.

Does anyone have a 2007 without towing or offroad package to verify this?

LOL. It's all in the wording.... I just read through the 2005 Service Manual and there's only mention of one transmission cooler for 3.7Ls. It bolts in front of the A/C condenser and behind the front fascia. If you read the sales brochure, it says "auxiliary oil cooler for automatic transmission." They mean to say that the transmission cooler is auxiliary to the engine cooler, not to a primary transmission cooler. Unfortunately, it seems that there is no transmission cooler standard and it's only available through the Off-Road and Tow Groups.

As for the power steering cooler.... The 2004 Service Manual states all vehicles came with it, while the 2005 states it's only available in the Tow (and presumably Off-Road) Group. After 2004 it must have become optional.

Just got another e-mail from Jeep:
After review of the sales information regarding the 2007 Jeep Liberty it
appears that there is no addition of an auxiliary transmission cooler as
equipped on many Chrysler Group vehicles. The towing package consists
of:

-7 pin wiring harness
-7 to 4 pin wiring adaptor
-heavy duty engine cooling
-hitch - class III receiver
-power steering cooler

After further review it does not appear that an auxiliary transmission
cooler is available from the factory for this vehicle.

In the 2007 brochure, the transmission cooler is mentioned as being a part of the Tow/Off-Road Group. On the Jeep website it's not mentioned at all for 2007 or 2006. Maybe they dropped the cooler from the package? The 2005 SM says the transmission cooler is in the Tow/Off-Road package but I don't have a 2007 SM to check. Then again, I've even found errors in the service manuals as they're just massive copy/paste jobs.

This is the tranny cooler on my 2005 Renegade without the tow or offroad package. From what I have seen all the libbys comes with the tranny cooler. However, it seems the power steering cooler is much harder to figure out. Sometime around 2005 it appears the PS cooler no longer became standard. I did not get one with my Renny.

I can say with a fact that '02 KJ's did not come with the AUX tranny cooler unless you got the HD cooling but came stock with the PS cooler.Boy this is all starting to confuse me! :?

If you don't have the Off-Road or Tow Group, try filling out this table based on what you physically see installed on your Liberty:

http://en.wikibooks.org/wiki/Jeep_Liber ... ns#Cooling

Make a note if your results conflict with someone else's results. It seems all the DC literature is incorrect or else purposefully vague.

I wonder if it needs to be seprated Manual vs. Auto.
The Stock 2007 Manual Libby has a Power Steering Cooler (at least the one I've seen).
From what I've heard the Auto does not.

Adding more confusion:

My 02 was factory ordered with the TOW pacakge that is supposed to include the HD cooling. I just ran out and checked and there is no AUX trans cooler on my Liberty (as posted in that picture) I know of the standard ATX cooler that is built into the radiator but now I am really, really confused because I could have sworn that I was supposed to have an AUX trans cooler....

I believe the 2002s with the 45RFE are an exception. As you mentioned above, they have their transmission cooler built into the engine radiator. It seams that Libertys are always equipped with at least one transmission cooler and never more. Does anyone not have a transmission cooler or have more than one? It looks like all the 2002s have the cooler built into the engine radiator and all the 2003+ have it bolted in front of the A/C condenser. When they say "auxiliary oil cooler for automatic transmission," maybe they mean to say the mechanical engine fan also helps pull air through the transmission cooler....

All the auto's have the cooler in the radiator,an AUX cooler is the one in front of the radiator run in tandum with the cooler in the radiator.

From the 2005 SM:

Quote:
The automatic transmission cooler is located in the
front of the condenser and behind the front fascia.
The transmission cooler is a heat exchanger that
allows heat in the transmission fluid to be transferred
to the air passing over the cooler fins.
The transmission oil cooler for the 2.8L Diesel with
automatic transmission integrated into the A/C condenser.

The removal instructions for the engine radiator mention removing the upper and lower radiator hoses and power steering cooler line but make no mention of any transmission cooler lines. I think only the early Libertys had the integrated tranny cooler. On my 2005 Renegade with Off-Road Group, there's only one cooler connecting to the transmission and it's in front of the A/C condenser. It looks like they simply moved the transmission cooler from inside the engine radiator to in front of it after 2002. It would seem that all Liberty have one transmission cooler, unless 02s with the Off-Road/Tow Group got the external as well as the internal.

My prediction for 3.7Ls:

Transmission Cooler:
2002 -> Integrated with Engine Radiator
2003 - 2007 -> External in front of A/C condenser

Power Steering Cooler
2002 - 2004 -> Standard
2005 - 2007 -> Available in Off-Road/Tow Group

but that is just it... I have the tow group and no extra cooler.

I've never had the 'temp' light come on or anything - but I guess I've always assumed that I had then aux trans cooler, along with the one in the radiator. I wonder if mine is located in the AC condenser like the CRD folks are???

Every automatic transmission should have at least one oil cooler. The heat buildup would absolutly destroy the transmission fluid without one.

Sorry I was wrong, they deleted the tranny cooler in the radiator in the '05's and above.Looked at the part books for the years and they list 2 radiators till '04 for autos(1 with the cooler,1 w/out for manual trans) and only 1 for '05 and '06(same pt# as the '02-'04 manual trans).I still confused, can't they just keeped the same stuff the same way for every year!

Don't say all so soon, there is ALWAYS an exception the the rule, IE the CRD.

In 2003, they added the Auxiliary Transmission Oil Cooler part, yet still listed the radiator w/ integrated cooler part until 2004. I wonder if you could get the integrated and auxiliary cooler together from 2003-2004....
