BFG Question

I am getting either BFG AT's or MT's in a 245/75R16
Most of my driving is on the road but I wheel as much as I can. I like the look of the MT's more but I hear they are fairly rough on the pavement and not so good on ice and I live in eastern canada and in the winter we get ice

Are the AT's gonna wear that much better? Will I be happy with them off road, are the good in the mud?

or

Are the MT's gonna wear that bad? are the that bad on ice?

what are the opinions?

i have BFG AT's (265/75/16).. i dont know much about the MT's but my father has a H2 (i know i'll hear it for that hahah ).. but it came from the factory with 35 inch BFG AT's and they have been amazing in all conditions and worn really well..plus they have an 8 ply, tri guard side wall.. and can run with 9 PSI in them..

that's just what i based my decision on.

Look at the new Cooper STT's, they're supposed to be quieter than most MT's and have siping for better on road traction in ice, snow, and rain.

Don't fool yourself, BFG AT's, or any At's will not perform well in mud!

I strongly recommend two sets of tires for those of us who have winter several months of the year. There really is nothing like a winter tire for winter conditions -- they make winter driving a heck of a lot safer, and more fun. In the summer, yes, go with mudders or A/Ts or whatever will suit your primary driving conditions. I know it's a lot more expensive to get set up this way, especially if you go with a second set of rims so you can keep your tires mounted all year. But in the long run, the price is worth every dime in peace of mind, and the driving results are far better summer and winter.

depends on how thick the mud is,if it's goo yes they will turn to raceing slicks ( I know from recent experiance) but if it's more watery mud you'll be fine & I've never had a problem in the snow that we get here in New England

if you keep your tire pressures up & all indentical they will wear good & even, I've had them on every truck I owned & love them now thier on the KJ ( BFG AT's) but I am considering the Mud Terrains for wheelin only just incase I end up in goo again

i had bfg a/t's on my 4x4 f150 for almost three years. i put 45k miles on them. when i got the new toyo open countrys put on, there was still 20% tread on the bfg's. those things last forever if your talking a/t tire. i did rotate and balance every 5k or so, but those were one of the best sets of tires i have owned.

I agree with the two sets of tires method.Nothing comes close to a true mud tire when your offroad.
