I hear ya buddy. This is one more reason why I chose to get rid of the CRD. The CRD was only made two years, and based upon all the problems, those engine and transmission parts might be hard to find 15 years from now. On the other hand, there should be thousands upon thousands of our Gasoline engines and transmissions abundant. 8) You might not need superglue.

they are seperated by the rear flange on the transmission (or something like that!)... I have been keeping a very close eye on my transmission fluid as well but it's been very clean for the last 30K miles.

Just to verify, the Transfer Case in your 45RFE is completely separate from the Transmission, therefore they do not share the same fluid, Right? I have the newer 42RLE, so does anybody know if the two fluids compartments share fluids or are they separate capacities as well?

Transmissions and transfer cases fluids are completely seperate from one another. There isn't any exchange of fluid from one unit to the other.

Thanks for the info. Even though my Tahoe had separate filling holes, the Trany and Transfer Case still shared the same fluid. I figured the 42RLE had separate capacities since the 42RLE transmission has been used in various applications. It’s kinda weird to think that the 42RLE is being used in the Front Wheel Drive Dodge Intrepid‘s, yet share the same Trany with the rear wheel Nitro, Liberty, and Wranglers.
