OK..I'm not sure if what I'm experiencing with my jeep is the same shudder others are talking about...I will try to discribe mine . This only happens when my engine is cold. I start my jeep and drive out of my driveway and proceed maybe 2 or 3 blocks. I start to slow down for the first stop sign . Just before my jeep comes to a stop there is a strong Groan or a shudder .Once I stop is stops too.. Initially i thought my antilock bracks were acting up because it only happens when im braking . Where the groan or vibration is coming from really hard to pinpoint . Sounds like it under me and infront of me at the same time. My next stop sign is about 1/4 mile from there. When it was very cold outside it would groan there too..but now its only at my fist stop sign...my engine has also stalled a few times at a stop sign...again its usually that first or second stop sign...after the engine is warm.i feel no shudder at all...I never feel this at 50 mph like others have said.

Ive owned this jeep for 3 months..i'm the second owner..I'ts a 2005 18,000 miles..The tourque converter has not been changed and it has never been detuned . I wisely paid the 100 bucks to keep the 70,000 powertrain waranty and just a reminder ..you have only 30 days from when yu purchase the vehicle to buy the waranty transfer.

Talked to our local dealership in Shorewood Illinois..They have done 2 of the torque converter recalls..The service manager was pretty candid about how it worked out. He said the first owner didnt come back to say it was running poorly or anything so he assumes everything is fine with that one..The second owner however was not happy at all with the performance after the work was done..they had to change the converter twice and still the owner was unhappy. He said the owner was pursuing this with Dalmer and that the owner knows this is probly not the dealerships fault. I asked him if the new converters were identical to the old ones and he thought they were the same but didnt want to commit to it.

I'm waiting to schedule my converter change out until i hear more stuff in this forum

Your problem is not what we call "the shudder". To induce the shudder- click off your overdrive- accelerate to 55 briskly (ie. almost full throttle)- then hold 55 mph. You should feel a sensation like you are running over drunk bumps. It also happens for some at 35 mph.
Your problem is most likely a lack of tranny fluid- follow the instructions in the manual to find the lever and fill if needed.

Interesting the service manager "thought they were the same" regarding the torque converter. There's been much speculation about them. It's said there were some that had poor welds causing air leaks. Regarding the noise. The rear brakes have been known to groan. Mine did/dose on occasion but just first thing in the morning. My thinking is the less they fool around with it the better off my jeep and me are :D Yes the F37 has gone both ways. Some have been ugly. It will definetly reduce the engine preformance. However you may or may not notice it depending on your driving style and how familiar you are with the kj.

well the driving over drunk bumps is exactly how it feels in my jeep when coming to my first stop in the morning..ill try to induce the shudder at 55mph as you discribed

........it is up to the mechanic if he can hear metallic rattling sounds at idle. If he can, it is no longer up to him.

This could be the torque converter trying to lock up. We had the same thing happen with ours, it would tend to happen at the same couple of intersections when cold. F37 would probably take care of this. It did for us.

I have a similar problem in any weather condition, it is more like stalling, possibly because the rpm is very low, but it never shuts off the engine.
It only happens in 2x4, as I am mostly driving in 4x4 Full time. When I come to a stop, and engine is warm, I let go of the gas. Idle engine rpm is low so when I let go of the gas it either doesn't move at all (which is normal) or moves very little and shakes up the house.. It feels like I am almost out of gas, but not as violent. It is the same when I am braking or slowing down but not stopping, maybe 3-4mph speed.. feels like it is cheap gas, and it's not.. Why? :?:

I turned off the overdrive and I tried to make it shudder as yu described.. couldnt make it happen...prolly a good thing . Why would anyone want to go 55mph without the overdrive anyways?
I'll check the tranny fluid level in the daylight huxrules..thanks for yur help

IIRC some/a lot of people had problems with their rear brakes sticking on earlier models. I don't think it ever came to recall status, but I wanna say there was a TSB out for it.

May wanna do a search of the forum and see what you can find.

Good luck

Yes, there is a TSB about it. The dealer replaced pads and some kind of anti-sqeak-o-matic clips. Now the brakes grunt only slightly for about three seconds when I drive it in reverse out of my driveway. After that its gone.
