Question about my wife's Libby? Is there supposed to be a light down near the shifter that shows what gear you are in? I don't drive her Jeep often but was driving it the other night and noticed there isn't a light down there. I thought there would be to show you what gear you are in. Also is there no dash light that shows the gear you are in? I looked in the owners manual and it didn't say anything about either a light on the shifter or on the dash so I figured I would ask the experts.

02 Liberty Limited in case it matters.

Thanks

Yes there is supposed to be a light down by the shifter. Mine's out too. I think it's a fuse but I haven't checked yet. Is your hazard light out also?

Mine's intermittent in my "02 Sport. I find that if I give the side of the plastic housing a good whack, it come on.

You know you can remove the shifter bezel and gain access to the little tiny light socket on the side of the PRNDL to inspect it for a loose fillement. That light bulb probably cost DCX all of $0.02 so it's not suprising to hear that a few of them are faulty once in a while.

And yes it is a requirement that any vehicle sold has at least 1 lighted indicator displaying the current selected gear in automatic transmission equiped vehicles. The two most common locations are on the PRNDL itself or in the insturment cluster. Both very high visibility locations.
