OK fellas, just got an update from the appraiser. Looks like about $6,200 in damage. A local collision center that works with my insurance company is sending out a flatbed to get the truck. I can't wait to see it again, even if I can't drive it. But at least it's not totaled.

I wonder if he had hit you square on your motor could have had less damage.

I don't think there IS any damage to the engine, that's the good part, but i guess we'll see when the work is all done.

ok, so as of now, the KJ is back in my hands, but there are still a few little issues that need to be ironed out. Looks like it's gonna need new axle shafts and bearings (again?) They forgot to put a trim peice on, they overlooked some bodywork on the tailgate and the rear taillight needs some new clips. but it's driveable and I'm glad to have it back. They did a really good job on the body work, and i can't wait to have it all finished. In the meantime, here are some shots with the new Cragar Soft 8s.

Savage: I live in Berlin! I'm sorry that I just saw this thread, I normally hang out on the Diesel section of this forum. If there is anything I can do to help you locally, give a holla! I hope it all works out OK.

The Berlin tpke is, unfortuneately, the only straight piece of road around and is loaded with low-rent bars, so it serves for the wanna-be drag strip. How you ended up in Berlin on the way from NJ to NH beats me, but next time you are in the area, be glad to have you by. If I'm not around, beer's in the garage.

Paul,
Thanks for the kind words. I actually ended up on the Berlin Tpke. because i'm not a big fan of 91. So i just shoot straight off the top of the Merritt and follow 5/15 (Berlin Tpke.) all the way to 84. I had done it numerous times with no issues, guess it was kinda bound to happen. This was right around lunch time, so i'm guessing this guy probably had a couple in him already, but i don't know if anyone bothered to check. I'll have to send the police dpt. $10 so i can get a print of the picture they took of the front of his truck, I think you guys would get a kick out of that.

ironically, the most and least expensive gas in the state is on the Berlin Turnpike. My mechanic at Silverlake Auto (Meriden) has incredibly expensive gas and diesel, but he's nuts about quality fuel and premium diesel. Meanwhile, about halfway allong you can get gas/diesel for as cheap as it comes. That same station is near the discount liquor place, too. Hmmmm...maybe I should stop going there.

Gopherbeat, I thought about it a long time, but running a grease-kit and free grease in the car was just too risky, I love 'er more than most of my exes. So I get commercial Biodiesel delivered to my house and getto flip a finger at the mid-east as I pump it in.

Now that Jetta is cool but getting on in years...might be time for a grease-kit soon.

Ok fellas, another update. all is worked out with the axle/brakes, the trim piece is fixed, the taillight is secured, and the tailgate is scheduled to be painted on Wednesday. Fingers crossed that everything goes well. I even got a new emblem for the hood (got sick and tired of looking at that "J" that the chrome had peeled off of, yes, it gave the KJ character for sure, but i like shiny things... ) I'll try to get you guys some more pics once i get the chance to get her all cleaned up. It's starting to get nice out here and there's a new construction site just down the street from my house, i think it might be time for an off-road photo shoot.

My KJ and me have almost bit the big one twice. The first time i was going around a round-a-bout, when two girls in a chevy truck came whipping around THE WRONG WAY, yes they thought that round-a-bouts were two way, needless to say i was very supprised to see headlights comming tward me. I swerved, hit the curb, ended up in the grass between a two lamp poasts. Besides being fairly pissed off i was allright, although the kj needed a visit to the alignment shop.
The second time was jsut recently, I94 was wet, and a girl in the left lane (talking on a cell phone) hit the centre devider going around 80, she bounced off the concrete, and right infront of me. I swearved and spun on the ice. I slid sideways on two wheels for a while (thought i was going to flip), then spun out like 5 times or so. I ended up in the ditch, and was able to pull the girl out of her car, she was ok, believe it or not her only injury was air bag burns. Given the fact that this was I94 on rushour, we were both fortunate not to be killed.

Glad to hear that your allright man, stands to the safty of these vehicles
