Yes I will admit I am old school and there is just way too much electronic junk on them now. As far as body goes I like it (without the sliding roof) up to the front fenders/hood/grill/headlights, wonder if I could switch all of that out? Still would like to be able to buy a stripped down vehicle with out all the fluff, only stuff you need. Oh well just bought a 95 cherokee with 39000 actual miles, windows that you have to roll up yourself and no frills

I didn't think I'd like it from the spy shots but it looks better. Glad it still has manual tranny option. One problem I noticed is that w/ manual tranny the tow package doesnt include engine or power steering cooler. Roof I don't know, could be cool but could leak maybe.

Not sure about the roof. I am sure it is just an option. Then again, the Wrangler is open with the option for a hard top.

I have no problems with the KK as far as interior (except the pedal space). The side of the exterior looks good. I don't like the front grille/headlights or the spare tire location.

I have no doubt that it will be a capable off-roading monster, but they are adding metro-life to it while trying to make it look like a Cherokee-Commander symbiosis.

I'll accept it in LOST until it has bigger and better mods than our KJ.

I think it looks nice and hopefully will bring more people into the liberty fold. Even though this site is LOST KJ's I do anticipate the owners of the new KK will to this site for information. I will welcome them with open arms. Overall it pretty cool but I wish it still had the round headlights and spare on the back.

I like it except for the electric shifting transfer case. Women didn't like having to pull the handle to shift it, but it didnt keep them from making the KJ the best selling SUV in its class. I don't think I will every by a KK, to much fancy electronics. I like the new TK and if I decide to by another new Jeep I will probably get a 4 door Rubi. The TK has way to much electronic gadgets too, but i think is way more oriented for offroad then the KK.

I wont be getting a new one anytime soon, not until the KJ is paid off. Plus I have a '92 XJ project I have just started and plan to beat up on for awhile until I figure what to do with the KJ.

Not only are they all electronic transfer cases, but the sport trim only comes with a compact spare tire.

I don't think it is bad looking, would have really liked to see some round headlights, but they would not have went with the box styly body. I think you can get away from some of the electronics by getting the manual trans. From what I understand after being on the Jeep site and pricing one out, the hill descent and hill start assist feature are only on the automatic transmisssions. I kinda like the sliding roof option too. I miss my topless TJ. (that sounds like something michael jackson would say  ). I have a while to decided considering all the $$$ I just put into the KJ. I really like the rubicons now, so it will be a hard decision when that time comes.

oh and when pricing the KK on the website they ask some questions about why you like the vehicle and such, but off-road capability is not an option

I don't come around too often since I traded the KJ in for a 07 T&C but thought I'd come over to see what talk about the new Liberty was.

http://www.detnews.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=2007704040365

I couldn't help but laugh. Not at the car but at the reporter hyping it up. The one thing that REALLY stuck out (other then the thought that the 08 looks like a nitro/commander) was the part about the "tweaking" of the engine to meet the new emission standards. I couldn't help but go to my file cabinet, pull out the window sticker from my 04 and look at the EPA numbers. 18 city, 23 hwy.
Quote:
While Jeep kept the 3.7-liter V-6, the powertrain was tweaked to improve its fuel economy to an estimated 16 mpg in the city and 22 mpg on the highway, based on the more stringent 2008 EPA numbers, Reuter said.

Ok, maybe they turned the screw the wrong way but 16/22 is the wrong direction from what was posted for older KJ's, at least according to the window sticker from my 04 and most of us knew and admited that those numbers were off by a few digits  As with the commander, I'm sure when gas hits 3+ bucks a gallon this summer, these things will be flying off the lots..

Did you read it correctly?
The EPA MPG estimates dropped the numbers down, so your current Liberty would get lower MPG than what you had on your window sticker due to the new tests. The 2008 gets 2 mpg more than the older Liberty's, if you use the same test to determine MPG.

The EPA revised the rating system in 2007 to more accurately reflect real world driving conditions.. Thus the drop in the MPG figures that are printed on the sale sticker.

I still love it. I priced one out and it comes to 31K with all the same features I have on my current liberty so who knows. :D

I think the EPA skewed the results. I get more than what they came up with by a lot and I am armored. Driving with larger tires, I was getting around 14.5 city, but I have had my stocks on for three tank fills and came back to 18 mpg city while carrying the RL rear bumper in the back of the KJ. My odo was never changed when I got the larger tires, but I know it was off 10 miles for every tankful.

Cool storage space in rear cargo area. BUT, Where is the spare? I thought the spare was under there.....Are they all those mini piece of krap spares, or is it just the sports that have those mini spares...
Thank goodness I bought when I did. I do like the cool sliding roof, but it sure as heck will eventually leak...

I really dont understand what jeep (DC) is trying to do, Why only one 08 jeep model is actually loyal of having the jeep name (JK). It seems that every year they are leaning more towards the goercery getters capable of driving in snow and backing the boat in the lake! They should have atleast one more model that offers some luxary along with the great off road capabilities that the jeep name has kept for many years. The 08' liberty would have been a excellent competitor for the FJ cruiser, and could have been able to take some of thier profits if they had of done somethings differently or atleast offer a offroad package with all the goodies. I love jeeps( 82' CJ-7 laredo first vehicle, Real jeep) but if they keep these trends up,what are they going to be making in 5 yrs (minivans!!) seriously. And now here in canada if you buy a SUV you have to pay and extra $4000.00 on top of the price for purchasing a low fuel economy vehicle (goverment regulations). So i guess i wont be getting another jeep for a Long time and will keep my KJ till she dies.

Love:
1. the way the seats go down comepletly flat. Looks like you could sleep back there!

2. double din stereo

3. sunroof

Hate:

1. Body design. Uninspired and unoriginal

2. Liberty badge on the side stripe. Tired and ugly

It's where the fuel tank used to be. Tucked up nice and tight--you're not going to hit it on the trail.

I have no idea where the fuel tank is now.

My only beef, offhand, is the electronic transfer case. At the Jeep Forum, at Camp Jeep last year, they kept grilling us about "Wouldn't you LIKE an electronic transfer case?" We unanimously said, "NO!"

So much for listening to what the 'common' man wants on the vehicle :?

All fuel tanks have been moved forward of the rear driveshaft to meet a new federal requirement
