They are not "auto" levelers. There is a switch near the left speaker that allows you to adjust the headlight in a downward motion in set steps.
Adding the switch sounds like a lot of work, don't know I would want to do it for little it would ever be used. If the Jeep is prewired and it was plug and play I guess I would.

Merry Christmas to you and yours.

Normally the conector for the headlight switch is the same arounds the world. there are open slots for the different options. Less money spent for manufacuring. I learned this when I was dating a woman that worked quality control for Delphi harness systems here in Germany. The new switch will simply plug in but you will not get the added advantage of the rear fog lamp. The headlight adjustm, ent will be a seperate switch. The conector on the headlamp I will have to check. I know on the Focus it IS DIFFERENT but a simpole parts search on a VW parts netted me a plug and play harness adapter.

Sorry for the spelling there is no heat in my office and it is below freezing outside. Germans are still on Christmas vacation so no chance to get the heat fixed.

I added a daylight running light unit that has the low beams on at all time.

My SilverStars lasted 13 months and around 30K miles. Actually one went out but I replaced both with the Ultras.

Why must the Xeon lens have a washer?

Because when the lights are dirty the lights no longer have a focused beam and the light is washed to a flood light state. this will blind on coming traffic. Here in Germany where 50% or more new cars have the HID option, it will piss off allot of other drivers.

It will piss off a lot of folks here in the US.

JC whitney part # RB815380 $12.99

That unit leaves low beam on anytime ignition is on.

On my F350 PSD, I used part #RB 135227 which reduces the voltage to the headlamp, which should extend the lamp life.

Both units involve 5 connections:
battery
ground
high beam
low beam
ignition

What has been the experience of silverstone users here. Do they go bad in just a year?

I replaced my OEM heads and fogs with SilverStars and one of the heads burned out in about 12 months with about 45k miles. I drive at night a lot so I figured that was about two years of usage. I was happy enough.

When I re-ordered I managed to order a new pair before I happened upon some stuff comparing Sylvania's SilverStar line with the SilverStar line from Osram/Sylvania. I'll be buying the Osram version next year I expect. I don't have the time to find the link but the Cliff Notes version is this:

Osram bought Sylvania (and therefore the SilverStar model name) both make a version.
Sylvania's version is whiter to get that psuedo-HID look, but this requires them to up the volts (?? vague memory) to bring the lumens output to US spec for headlights. This causes them to fail early (too hot).
Osram's version (more of a European market I believe) still outperforms the OEM lights but is a yellower light, but only slightly and it still "looks" white as compared to OEM. They meet the lumens requirement without having to fudge the volts and the bulbs last longer. Not sure is longer means as compared to Sylvania or OEM or what.

I recall the info provided lots of info on what color each light was as measured in degrees K but I don't have that info in my memory.

PS - I had to go fetch my wife to get the driver lamp in since I didn't feel compelled to remove the circuit box or the lamp assembly. It is a tight spot. One more inch of harness would make a world of difference too when trying to insert the thing back in the housing without touching the lamp or getting engine compartment debris on it!

I put a set of SS in my 02 Liberty in 2002 - the 02 Liberty had the dimmest, yellow light I'd ever seen. In the package with those SilverStars was a tiny little instruction sheet, warning not to touch the glass bulbs with your fingers, as the oils on ones hands would cause premature burnout at the high temperatures the SS's use - they also advised washing them with alcohol before installation, which I did.

5 years later, the left side low beam just burned out. Right side was still going strong. I bought another set, installed, after cleaning them with alcohol. I've read many reports about them burning out in 3 months, a year or 2 years. Each time I asked if they had cleaned them and not touched them per the instructions, there was never a definitive answer. In the last set of SS's, there are no references in the instructions to not touching them or cleaning them. And the last set are SS 9007/ST2's which are rated at 4100K instead of the 4000K in the SilverStar ST.

The glow plugs also have warnings about not touching the ceramic tip to avoid premature burnout.

But yes, I have had long service on my SilverStars - whether it was following the instructions and cleaning them, I don't know. And I use them frequently at night. So if this next set lasts another 5 years, I'll accept that keeping them clean helps prolong their service.

As soon as I can source a cheaper supplier for the e-spec headlamps I am getting the xenon conversion my friend just installed on his e-spec car. I ma not a big fan of this but I did some testing at night with him and they work well with the e-spec lights. They burn about the same as my Phillips vision plus lamps, 4000k. Then all I need to add is the headlamp washer.
