hmm what about a hitch mounted spare with jerry cans? Just a thought. Thinking about getting the extra weight off my back door to try and save it.

I just read the title, but my opinion if money is no object. fabricate a bumper that puts the spare tire on the far right and the gas can on the far left of the bumper :)

x2. Although it is a handful to take up/down. But some of the places I visit don't have gas stations nearby.

In that case, give me a few more months and I will share something with you guys. I am not sure how...practical it is yet as it is still in the design phase. Not even sure if it will work properly but you never know until you build it :)

Great design :D on the hicht, but actualy, in the US where are we going that we need so much extra fuel. In other continents yes you would need extra fuel if you wer running an expedition run, but in the good old US plenty of gas stations to gas up.

Canyonlands in Utah have some trails that take you way out in the middle of nowhere. I could of used at least one of those cans last july. There was one gas station at the needles out post but at 5.35 a gallon I took a chance and made it back to Moab with 1/8 tank left. Next year I will bring extra gas.

East coast yes, there are plenty but West coast or in the more arid regions they are few and far between. Hell I see signs nearly everytime i go out that say last gas for Xmiles. And they mean it.

Excellent design, built one myself and I love it. I like to go camping in remote locations (45 minutes away from the first convenience store and paved roads) and you need to bring everything. Gas is easy to find but diesel is a bit harder up there so I don't take any chance, I bring a jerry can of diesel and a jerry can of water. All the camping gear fit in my M416 trailer and the canoe fits on top of the trailer. Perfect set-up. Last time we went there was a happy bunch with a 4 door wrangler and they find it really under powered. No problem whatsoever with the CRD, it felt right at home and my mind was at rest knowing I had extra fuel and water. A few years back, some people arrived at night and got lost. We had to look for them and it's always nice to have extra fuel for those odd situations.
