If so...How much more? Anyone knows the extended and compressed measurements ?
I'm using now a pair of Koni Heavy Track and extended upper strut plates. I've got a nice 60mm lift - with a 3mm clevis aswell-, and like a lot the springs ( They are 30mm longer and the wire is 0.05mm thicker ) and ride but the upper ball joint hits the spring. Maybe using a slightly longer front shock with the STOCK strut plate could solve that UBJ annoying hit.

Thanks

Much longer and you will run into contact problems between the springs and upperball joints. Thus the contact will limit your travel and a longer strut is not going to do much.

Eddo,
What I want is a SHORTER strut when extended. The combo of OME front shocks + original upper plates could avoid the hit of the UBJ while I still would have the 60mm lift provided by the springs.

If the OME front shocks are longer than the stock and I use them with the extended upper plates I'm using now the result will be even worse.

I need to know how long are the OMEs extended

Cheers

If you use the stock plates and used the OME front shocks, you would NOT get upper balljoint contact. Thats the setup that I am using and tons of other LOST members are using since thats what the Rustys lift uses.

I am unsure about the extended length since Ive never had the front coil overs apart. :? I do know that they are longer than the stock shocks though. :)

Edit: I just noticed you also did a clevis lift also. I used two conduit nuts(around 1/8in thick a piece) for my clevis lift and I do not get upper balljoint contact. Ive heard of people using three nuts and not having any problems. Just be sure to turn the coils so that the upper balljoint goes between the coils when it droops.

I believe Eddo was thinking you were going to use both the OME shocks and the custom upper plate that you have.

Those are good news..Thanks jeepjeepster. Hope anybody in the forum know the exact extended length.

I have the OME front struts. There remains a safe clearance between UBJ and spring (that's one of the reasons I have exchanged my Skyjacker suspension for the OME's).
The length of the OME strut is 390 mm fully extended, measured from the bottom end of the strut to the point where the thread on the stem begins. This is the same length as the original struts, give or take a few mm's.
Please realize that with these struts, and your quite long springs, you will have only very little downtravel left in your suspension.

Shame. I suppose I will have to play with the custom upper plate and reduce the extended length a bit ( cutting it )to avoid the hit without loosing too much downtravel.

If your springs are indeed only 30 mm longer than stock, you should be okay, but you write about 60 mm of lift and I don't understand where the remaining 30 mm is coming from.
If you use the OME struts with your +30 mm springs, and you want a bit more lift, you can add some clevis lift. There is a bit of room left before you get UBJ contact.
The design of the KJ front suspension does not allow a large amount of lift, while retaining the original amount of down travel, unless you change the upper A-arms to avoid UBJ contact.

HIKJ,
As you know the total amount of lift depends not only on spring height but also on the stifness of it. As for spring height alone, you always get more lift than the extra length of the new spring ( the same occur to clevis or other components of the strut ). The conversion factor is more or less 1.6x. So if you put, say, a 10mm plate upon your strut you will get 16mm of total lift.
That is the reason why I have 60mm of lift : 30mm spring+3mm clevis = 33mmx 1.6 =52.8mm, the rest to 60mm is due to the plate and spring stiffness.

:) salut.

I follow you.
My new springs are 17 mm longer than stock (free uncompressed length). They gave me 45 mm lift, that equates to a 28 mm longer spring (due to the 1,6 leverage factor). So the balance is indeed due to higher spring rate (450 vs 410 lbs/inch).

NS131 Open Length = 333 mm
Closed = 201 mm
Be careful when you use OME Struts with something other than an OME coil... our clevis mount is slightly lower than the stock strut, so you gain a little more height when you use an OME strut vs say a Rancho or the stock piece

How do you measure your strut length exactly? From where to where on the strut?

Sorry I have to disagree with the specialist. I have measured the OME NS131 against the stock strut. They have the same length (333 vs 335 mm); also the clevis mount has equal length (50 mm from spring seat to bottom of strut). So the clevis sits in the same place. Each of them has a small margin of "clevis lift" (say max 10 mm).

Are you saying that stock is 333 and the OME measured 335 extended?

If the clevis mount is the same distance from the bottom on both struts that means the longer strut actually provides 5mm or about .197 inch clevis lift. Correct? Which would net more than 5mm/.197 total lift due to suspension geometry.

Reverse: OME 333 mm, stock 335 mm measured fully extended from spring seat to where the stem meets the upper mount.
I am not sure where you get the 5 mm difference. I measured 2 mm difference, but don't nail me down on a mm more or less, that is my measuring tolerance.
