has anyone had their air bag light come on? mine has done it twice today, it came on in the middle of driving, stayed on for maybe 15 seconds, then went off. i know on the grand cherokees and wranglers clock springs seem to be the big culprit, does the KJ share the same affliction??

Clock spring is the most likely place to have a problem, its the only moving part in the system. A dealer should be able to use their DRB to tell you if you have a code in the airbag system.

Is it the dash light or the passenger side one? The passenger Airbag light will come on if you have something in the passenger seat like a bag or something. If iit doesn't meet the weight requirement the light will go on to tell you that an airbag wont go off. I think it's a child safety thing.

Got the libby back yesterday. they couldn't find a physical problem, "All ok at this time", but they did clear the stored code. thankfully they did not charge me either seeing as it was a 50 mile round trip to this particular dealer. i was hoping that it was going to be to be the end of this episode, but i knew better. sure enough the light came back on as I was pulling into the garage. the code they cleared was "Passenger squib 1 control circuit"....or at least that's what they put on the work order. (for those of you new to the air bag world, the squib is the air bag itself) i would assume that pretty much rules out the clock spring.

i called the dealership back this morning and asked them what this means (do I need a new air bag). he said that there is a "short in the wiring" and that i shouldn't need a new air bag. i'm not going to hold my breath, but I am going to give it the 'bend over and grab your ankles' inspection today. i have pin outs on the connectors for the air bag controller so i'll have some place to start.

if i can't find anything, back to the dealer we go!

.....i wonder if i knocked something loose when installing my new stereo on Thursday, it was a direct swap, Alpine for Alpine, didn't have to change any wiring....i guess we'll find out.
