So I went playing around this week in the KJ and when I got back on the pavement, I switched back into 2WD and notice that the part-time light on the instrument cluster came ON. Funny I thought, shouldn't that come on when I'm in 4 WD HI? Switched back to HI, light goes off. Tried switching it to LO and back to 2WD, light comes back on. Even tried the reverse trick, to no avail.

Does anybody have any suggestions on fixing this small dilema? A fuse? Something to unplug and replug? Physically the transfer case seems to be in the right gear, only the light is reading the opposite of what it should. If not, swinging by the dealership this week. Thanks for the help.
later,
mike

There are a couple posts about this give me a min. and I'll see if I can find one. But if my memory doesn't fail me I think the switch that tells the position of the lever shorts out.

heres one of em........

Ha...I wondered the same thing a few months ago. A friend of my sister has a 03' Black sport w/ 90K and we went to do some riding in my woods. Him following me...we came to a small hill climb (there was snow on the ground) and I told him to put it in part time assuming he knew what I meant (the kid knows NOTHING at all about the Jeep/Wheeling). He did but questioned why part time. I told him that he would need 4WD. He then told me he thought part time was 2WD. Funny thing was the light was on when he was in 2WD and came off when he switched to part time or Hi, just as in your case. He always thought part time was 2WD...then I showed him my 02' and how the light came on during Hi. I knew there must have been a problem but I later forgot about it.

I had the same thing happen to me last year at Camp Jeep. 4WD works fine - it's just the dummy light that can't tell the difference. I figure it's not worth spending the $$ to get it fixed.

no prob. If you have the warranty then i would get it fixed, it doesn't effect the actual tcase just an inconvience but if your somewhat of a perfectionist about your car(like me) then I would go get it fixed.
