Deal is I have been offered a set of Moabs and MTRs with actually less than 800 miles on them. Guy is building a "show only" Rubicon so he bought it, drove it a couple of times and tore it apart, tires have never been wet! So how do they really ride on a DD and how loud are they? I used to like the sound of Ground Hawgs and mudders going down the road.... but anymore ???? Whats everyone think, it is my DD and I run about 27 to 30000 a year. Price is about what used Moabs go for without the tires. PROS? CONS???

Hope it's not a new Rubi, they use a different hole pattern (5X5) and 17 inch rims. The MTR are a middlin' noise tire that needs rotation a lot to keep the wear even and at about 10-12,000 wear they start getting loader as they wear more. Offroad they are a very nice tire to get along with in just about any terrain.

No this is an 06 they are coming off of, may just sell the tires and get what I want

I will personally never buy another set of MT/Rs unless they redesign them. They were one of the first if not the first mud-terrain tires, and they haven't changed them since the original tread design.

Now that I have had a set of tires that are a take off from that style, but re-engineered and factory siped, I would never go back. MTR's are great, but they wear fast and get loud unless you rotate em a lot, at least they did for me and I owned 2 sets - one on each jeep. Now just the KJ has em and is actually louder than my soft-topped rubicon on 33s now.

Check out the Cooper STTs. I have the Mickey Thompson labeled version on my Rubicon and love them. They only make the 245-75-16 in the Cooper label, however.

Thanks pixeldzn, thats where I was sort of looking was the Cooper STTs, although now the guy has jumped his price by $450 (almost doubled) since some one told him that on eBay Moabs and MTRs were selling for $1400. Was already headed towards his house when he called!

The wheel/tire combos that are in the $1400 range I've seen were for a perfect no run except to the house 5 tire/wheel set. The frenzy seems to have slowed and they aren't as much now as they were a year ago it appears. Some guys have been trying to piece together sets and have found that each year appears to be a little different in design I'm told, so get them all off the same rig. Lots of sets now seem to run over and over for a while before they are bought or give up on the hopes of getting premium prices.
