I got fix-it ticket for a burned out licence plate light the other night. So it got me to thinkin,I dont think the RL rear bumper I ordered has a licence plate light. Is anyone running a licence plate light with the RL rear bumper? If so, what kind of setup are you running?

All my rear bumpers come with a license plate relocation bracket and a light. I was a cop once upon a time, so I know the rules and what a pain it could be for someone to try and figure out where to put that thing and keep it legal. It mounts to either the stock carrier or the swing away carrier for the bumper. Just sandwich the nutplate between the spare and the carrier, pop the little hub cap off your wheel, screw in the bracket, run a power wire from the old hookup up through the tailgate, out the window right above the stock carrier, plug it into the light.

Cool. That should do the trick.

Yeah, dont forget to put a disconnect on it somewhere, will tangle the wire up trying to screw it in. (at least so it would seem, have to run power tomarrow) Marty, or anybody else, know what the hot wire is to run the light off of? Haven't checked it out yet, just wondering if anybody else has done it already.

btw Marty, this plate carrier looks pretty nice. works well too.

later,
mike

Thanks.

It's been awhile, and Ted did the wiring, but I believe there is a connector for the stock license plate light. Just turn on the lights, and use a tester to find the hot wire, splice into that and run the wire. Or maybe the wire for the running lights on the taillight?

FYI - they seal the light to protect it from water - and they sealed mine well enough that the light bulb base didn't make contact with the mount (That's a problem - it's the ground)

a small sheetmetal screw from the light bulb base through the rubber backing into the mount solved it - works great now.

- No I didn't take any pictures - if you're mounting it and the lights not working, check the ground path it's pretty obvious.

just looked under jeep, there are two wires in the factory plug, the black with yellow stripe is the positive wire for the light.

yep, was just going to post the same thing Ted. Hooked mine up in about 15 minutes this afternoon. Used the factory harness for a disconnect (in) the bumper and putting another quick disconnect behind the plate too. Looks great, can't wait till nightfall to see it all lite up. lol

I'm still gonna have to figure this out because I've got one of those Kilby antenna mount that bolts in place of one of the nuts in the spare tire carrier :)

There's always an odd one out there ...
